Biography

MILEMARKERS
Thank you for your interest in milemarkers. Our mission is to deliver the very highest quality Americana rock to the roaring fork valley. Our skillfully crafted original songs have received praise from music promoters and musicians around the valley and beyond. Our mix of cover songs is unique, fresh and familiar. We are dedicated to giving our live audience the very best performance possible, our shows are energetic, well paced and musically diverse.

We are-

Hap Harriman
Legendary guitar slinger Hap Harriman polished his remarkable playing skills over many years in the infamous Chicago music scene. He toured nationally and was part of Alice Peacock's band for a number of years. Hap is also a gifted producer, singer, songwriter, and studio cat. A life long fan of the Roaring Fork Valley, Hap has finally parked his tour bus in Basalt indefinitely.

Nelson Oldham
Nelson's musical influences come from all over. “My parents had a great record collection. Elvis, Kingston Trio, Mamas and Papas, Blood Sweat and Tears, and lot's of showtunes. I listened to that stuff all the time growing up.” Nelson emerged as a songwriter while performing in previous local bands, Midlife Crisis and the Redtones.

Chris Goplerud
Chris has been banging on things for as long as he can remember. Formal drum lessons started at the age of eight in Buffalo, New York. His first professional gigs began at fifteen in the bars and dance halls of Richmond, Virginia.  At the fork in the road between a classical percussion degree and a Colorado skiing/climbing life, he headed west and never looked back. Chris has played with everyone from Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd) to saxophonist Harry Allen (Tony Bennett). "Free Bird" meets "I Left My Heart In San Francisco"! Chris has also performed with just about all the usual suspects in the Roaring Fork Valley over the past eighteen years.

Vidi
All the way from Liverpool, England, this bassman found his home base in Aspen. Holding down the bottom end with local jam band "Jes Grew", and jazz ensemble "Elememts", Vidi is now exploring alternatives in Americana with Milemarkers.

Lyrics

Twinkletown

Written By: Nelson Oldham

STARS SHINE DOWN ON MY TWINKLE LITTLE TOWN
MOON SHINES TOO REFLECTED LIGHT
WHEELS START TO ROLL
HIGHWAY TAKES IT'S TOLL
CARRIES ME AWAY INTO THE NIGHT

WANDERLUST GASOLINE AND DUST
CHAPERONE ME AS I LIVE MY DREAMS
PLAYING TOWNES ON THE BUS
IN CREDIT CARDS I TRUST
TO FIND MY WAY ACROSS THE INBETWEENS

WHAT ARE THE ANSWERS WHAT ARE THE QUESTIONS
ARE THEY DIFFERENT OR THE SAME
SO FAR BEYOND THE CONFINES OF MY IMAGINATION
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO EXPLAIN

WORLD SPINNING ROUND KEEPS MY FEET ON THE GROUND
SUNSHINE EVERY MORNING IN MY EYES
WHEELS START TO GRIND
IT'S MATTER OVER MIND
I'M JUST HANGING ON FOR THE RIDE

TIME ROLLS OVER ME LIKE WAVES TO THE BEACH
I FEEL LIKE A SINGLE GRAIN OF SAND
ANY EXPLANATION SO FAR OUT OF REACH
I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHO I AM

SLEEP AT DAWN WHEELS ROLLING ON
ALL MY REFLECTIONS FADE AWAY
THIS JOURNEY NEVER ENDS
SO I JUST GO TO WORK AGAIN
PLAY THIS OLD GUITAR ANOTHER DAY

STARS SHINE DOWN ON MY TWINKLE LITTLE TOWN
MOON SHINES TOO REFLECTED LIGHT
HELPS ME SEE WHAT THIS LIFE MEANS TO ME
WHEN I GET BLINDED BY THE NIGHT

Angel on the Bus

Written By: Nelson Oldham

CHORUS
ANGEL ON THE BUS WINGS GATHERING DUST
STRANGER TO HIS FEET ON THE FLOOR
I KNOW HE'LL FLY AGAIN I JUST HOPE THAT GOD KNOWS WHEN
AND THIS BLUEBIRD WON'T HAVE TO CARRY HIM NO MORE

VERSE
I KNOW THE HEARTS OF MEN ARE STRONG
AND I KNOW THAT STRENGTH IS OVERDRAWN
I HOPE THE WORST HAS COME AND GONE
CAUSE I HEAR TOO MANY VOICES SINGING WORRIED SONGS
THEY GOT TROUBLE ON THE HILL
THEY ALWAYS HAVE AND THEY ALWAYS WILL
THEY'RE FEEDING HUNDRED DOLLAR BILLS
TO THE VULTURES ON THE WINDOW SILLS
AND PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE'S LINED
WITH CLOCKS SOMEONE FORGOT TO WIND
AND ALL THE GHOSTS OF 29
ARE RUNNING DOWN THE STREET BEHIND THAT

CHORUS

VERSE 2
DOLLAR SAYS IN GOD WE TRUST
NOW ALL THOSE DOLLARS TURNED TO DUST
WHEELS SO SLOW THEY START TO RUST
WORKING FOR THE MAN MUST BE KILLING US
AND ALL THE BILLS DOWN ON THE FLOOR
SIGN THEM IN AND WRITE SOME MORE
CAUSE FOLKS ARE WEARING OUT THE DOORS
OF SECOND HAND AND LIQUOR STORES
WILL THE ANSWERS COME TOO LATE
BEFORE THEY'RE BREAKING DOWN THE GATE
TEAR IT UP AND CLEAN THE SLATE CAUSE
IN OUR HANDS WE HOLD THE FATE OF THAT

CHORUS

WE GOT TO STAND UP ALL TOGETHER
OPEN UP OUR HEARTS AND MINDS
CAUSE WHEN THE SUN BREAKS THROUGH THIS STORMY WEATHER
THAT ANGEL'S GONNA SPREAD HIS WINGS AND FLY

CHORUS

Finding Easy

Written By: Nelson Oldham

YOU CAN'T DECIDE WHAT TO WEAR
WHEN THE MORNING'S HEAVY ON YOUR MIND
AND SOMETIMES I DON'T KNOW WHICH CROSS TO BEAR
SHOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE AND MAKE THE TIME
TO LEARN TO BE A LOVER LEARN TO BE A FRIEND
LEARN WHICH ONE YOU NEED AND WHEN AND HOW TO PRETEND
SO I CAN LISTEN EVEN WHEN I'M FEELING LOW AND GOT NOTHING LEFT TO GIVE

CHORUS:
WON'T YOU TELL ME PLEASE
WHAT'S SO HARD ABOUT LOVING ME
I TRY MY BEST TO MAKE IT EASY
BUT IT JUST DON'T WORK SOMETIMES
WHY IS EASY SO HARD TO FIND
BABY YOU HOLD ALL THE CARDS
MAYBE I SHOULD JUST SURRENDER LET DOWN MY GUARD
AND SAY I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN
UNTIL WE BOTH GIVE IN
WHAT IF I GIVE YOU THIS HEART OF GOLD
THEN I COULD JUST GET STONED AND PUT ON RUBBER SOUL
LET THE MUSIC CARRY ME AWAY JUST LET IT PLAY

VERSE 2
MAYBE ALL I HAVE TO DO IS ASK
COULD IT BE THAT SIMPLE I COULD FIND A WAY AT LAST
TO UNDERSTAND YOUR EVER CHANGING MOODS AND NEEDS
KNOW WHEN TO HOLD YOU TIGHT AND WHEN SET YOU FREE
THIS IS WHAT I'M THINKING ABOUT ON MY HOME
HOW I CAN GET YOUR ATTENTION AND SHOW YOU HOW MUCH I'VE GROWN
WON'T YOU JUST TELL ME WHAT TO DO HOW TO PUT MY TRUST IN YOU

CHORUS

Colorado

Written By: nelson Oldham

verse1
Everybody, I want to tell you about a place I know
you won't find it in the wintertime, it gets covered up with snow
but what the sun starts setting late and the green creeps across my view
I open up my windows wide and let that Utah breeze blow through

verse2
I get home when my work is done I sit down and close my eyes
my body's tired muscles sore but then I hear folks laughing right outside
so I, put on my old jean jacket head down to the liquor store
buy myself something cold and dark isn't that what summertime's for

chorus
colorado summertime as the sun goes down
mountain shadows make their way across the town
snow fields way up high holding on all summer long
waiting for september storms

verse3
now I'm walking down the street everybody's on the move
there's music on friday nights sometimes country sometimes blues
the sidewalk still is hot, but the sun is sinking low.
I hear the band start playing and I know that's where I want to go

colorado summertime as the sun goes down
mountain shadows make their way across the town
snow fields way up high holding on all summer long
longing for september storms
