""Beautiful and haunting." Feature: Metal vocalist Militia Vox to release 'BAIT' EP on Halloween"

Progressive, hard rock singer Militia Vox will release a new EP, BAIT, on Halloween 2014. The six-track project features the “femme metale” artist and musician covering songs by Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Ozzy Osbourne, and other greats. The EP is also the lead-in to Vox’s upcoming two-album concept project, THE VILLAINESS, “because every Villain needs good Bait to reel in their victims.”

Called “the New York City metal goddess” by Global News, Militia Vox was a member of critically-acclaimed bands Disciples of Astaroth, Swear on Your Life, and Judas Priestess (the world’s only all-girl, Judas Priest tribute band) before going solo in 2013. In addition to being a formidable frontwoman, Vox is also an arranger, songwriter, keyboardist, synth player, rhythm guitarist, and a classically-trained pianist. BAIT secures her position as a leader in the largely male world of heavy metal, and is a powerful display of the rocker’s talents.

The EP’s lead single is “Rid of Me” – originally recorded by English alt rock musician PJ Harvey. Vox’s version is beautiful and haunting—a skillful interpretation of the classic record. She discussed the single and the accompanying music video in a recent interview.

“Thematically, this song and video are centered on a very specific female archetype – a lady everyone loves to hate… a madwoman; she’s ‘The Rejected Lover,’” Vox told horror site Bloody Disgusting last week. “Nothing is scarier than a lovesick woman. This type of woman has historically been both feared and celebrated… I find these kind of women fascinating because every female has the capability to let her love cross the line and spin out of control out of desperation.

“If she feels like her desires are not being reciprocated, there is hell to pay. PJ Harvey is a goddess for writing these words. It’s a perspective that you rarely hear expressed in music.”

BAIT is currently available for pre-order on Bandcamp, and will be released in digital retailers on Oct. 31. Militia Vox also has a residency at haunted entertainment venue Times Scare NYC, and will be performing on Oct. 25, 27, and Nov. 2. More information and future performances are posted on Vox’s website. The tracklist for the BAIT EP is below, and the music video for "Rid of Me" is above.

Explosive, epic and with unstoppable energy, Militia Vox is a unique musical experience that showcases the unparalleled talent, four-octave range, raw power and mesmerizing presence of this modern metalist.

Well known as the frontwoman for Judas Priestess and Swear On Your Life, as well as a former host on MTV2, VH1 and Fuse, and a key influencer of the Afropunk movement, MILITIA VOX officially stepped forward as a solo recording artist in 2013. Based in NYC and originally hailing from Columbia, Maryland, Militia has performed with Twisted Sister, Living Colour, Taylor Dayne, Nancy Sinatra and Cyndi Lauper. MV has become a crowd favorite at national festivals and events- she has held a residency at Times Scare in Times Square NYC, headlines bike week / motorcycle rallies as well as the prestigious Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

Militia's mantra is "Disgrace Your Stereotype" and she lives her life by this adage, encouraging people to be true to themselves and rise above labels. She is a magnetic public speaker at national events, colleges and conferences, as well as being featured in several books, tv shows and films. M is also a voting member of The Recording Academy/Grammy Association.

Her first solo album "BAIT" was self funded and independently released on Halloween 2014 to much international critical acclaim. It’s the first part of a 3-album concept series, "THE VILLAINESS", which represents Militia as a response to, and the antithesis of the pop princesses of today. She describes the music as “Femme Metale”- in praise of wicked women. The 2nd album in the series "ISOSCELES" (e.p.) is came out on September 3, 2016;  Afropunk calls it "a throbbing, high energy and mercilessly dark collection of unrelenting progressive metal that's both intense and insanely listenable."
