ACTRESS, SINGER AND SONGWRITER - ALL SONGS ON THIS WEBSITE WERE WRITTEN (MUSIC AND LYRICS) AND PERFORMED BY MILLIE VELEZ. Milagros Velez, popularly known as “Millie Velez”, was born in Lima-Peru to a family consisting of three sisters, her mother, who was a teacher, and her father, who was an insurance broker. Millie showed an inclination for stage performance at a very early age, initiating classical ballet training at the tender age of eight. This training would expand well into her 15th year, earning her the distinction of being selected to participate in some of the most nationally acclaimed shows, The Nutcracker Ballet, featured at the National Theatre of Lima, being one such show. She also appeared in a number of nationally televised commercials advertising such notable products as Coca-Cola and Bata Shoes and made her presence known through active and consistent participation in annual school plays. At the age of 15, and during a visit to the United States, Millie had the opportunity to attend an American High School for three months and experience the lifestyle and cultural diversity that has so long been the signature of this country. She was fascinated to see that her friends here would come from different countries and places, and all would, in their own way, contribute to her cultural growth and overall development. It was as a result of this break through that Millie decided she would pursue her college education in the U.S. upon academic completion of her high school requirements in Lima, Peru. True to her word, and at the age of 17, Millie entered Georgia State University to pursue a bachelor degree in business administration. Having graduated with honors, she was swiftly selected for a position as an information technology consultant. A position, which would have her travel all across the United States and settle in places such as Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York. Her passion for the arts, music, and overall performance, nonetheless, never ceased to fuel the side in her that was always attracted by the creative. She proceeded to study acting for film and television for a period of two years in the Atlanta Screen Actors Studio. Then, in Los Angeles, she became the lead vocalist for a popular local Latin band known as, “Revolucion”, whose repertoire included songs from genres such as salsa, merengue, cumbia, bolero, cha-cha and even disco. Millie and “Revolucion” performed at local weddings, anniversaries, corporate parties, festivals and night-clubs all across southern California, Disneyland and Universal Studios in Hollywood, being some of the most notable places that provided a home to their performances. It was during her time with “Revolucion” that Millie further honed the musical skills that would propel her to become a complete songwriter, the result of which is clearly manifested in the first songs of her album "Come to me", which contains eleven songs in English and two in Spanish. One of the Spanish tracks in Millie’s "Come to me" album, a song entitled, “La Gran Manzana”, was selected by Univision, Channel 34 in Los Angeles, California, as the theme song for the one year tribute to the victims of 9/11. This honor earned Millie an interview in the morning news segment of Univision, where she had the opportunity to perform her song, “La Gran Manzana”, live for the listening and viewing pleasure of a vast television audience. While living in Los Angeles, Millie also landed the principal role on the nationwide television show, “What women want” on E! Entertainment Channel. At the present time, Millie is writing and preparing material for her upcoming CD, which will be done in Spanish, and attending the reputable Latin music school Boys Harbor Conservatory in New York. Millie is an active member of ASCAP “American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers”.
