Bio

"Too often the label ‘Roots/Soul’ gets misguidedly slapped onto an artist’s work, which is undeserving of such a regal title. This is definitely not the case when it comes to Milly Moodie. Beginning her musical journey at the ripe old age of seven, it is safe to say that she feels music is the very essence of who she is. And you can hear it. From the first few bars of her soulful ballad, Black Coffee, one hears a voice that is well beyond it’s years. With comparisons to Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill, it could also be said that she’s in very good company. “When I sing - I’m home - I feel grounded, i feel free and I like to show that in my writing. Honesty is the key - I have to feel the surface beneath me when I’m getting my words out there and I try to make it as much that way for my audience - welcoming them to my Lounge-room. Music is my breakfast, lunch and dinner - but I like to think my sound is your supper”. When it comes to delivering Roots/Soul music, Milly Moodie walks the walk. She is not afraid to take bold steps, from stripped back and exposed performances to big band extravaganzas. Eclectic in her tastes (from Pink to Etta James), Milly Moodie’s music is both ‘down-home’ and exotic. Now, just released her first EP "To Whom it May Concern" following the many different avenues of the industry she has discovered, Milly is out to road test this strong batch of songs in some intimate performances around Melbourne and Interstate. Just close your eyes and get on board the A-train, as you are transported to a time when Soul really meant that it had soul." Bio thanks - Angie.Hart
