"We Are MiMi Cry"

This five-piece band of guys from Newmarket, Ontario have just finished their debut EP titled “Yes!” and it caught our attention the first time we heard it. We were able to catch up with them at the Rehearsal Factory in Toronto in early June to make a video. Already writing songs like pros, you can feel the energy in their performace and you can tell they love what they are doing.

We’re still not sure what the band’s name means or how it came about, but lets assume it’s meant to be a conversation starter. Their influences include Arcade Fire, Artic Monkeys, The Strokes and even Nirvana. If you ask us, “Make a Wish” is reminiscent of classic Cold War Kids – and we like it… a LOT.

MiMi Cry have already played at some iconic Toronto venues including the Horseshoe Tavern, the Hideout, Rancho Relaxo and the Cameron House and we hope to see them around a lot more often. If you have a chance, go and check them out.

June 29 – Aurora Music Festival
July 6 – Georgian Triangle Music Festival, Wasaga Beach - GottabScene

"MiMi Cry at the Hideout"

Even though MiMi Cry are early in their career, their songs are filled with great edgy hooks, and their act is as tight as a drum. When guitarist Graham Queen leaped dramatically off the drum beats, guitar riffs cocked like a semi-automatic for F#ck if I Know, you could feel the crowd melting into their grooves thirsty for more. This was a special night for these five musicians - they were not only playing the CMW showcase, but it was MiMi Cry's album release launch, where everyone received a copy of their EP. - Vandala Magazine

A young bad with a raw and rough sounding clearly influenced by punk. The high energy set was tight and polished. They themselves claim they sound like: Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Nirvana and Jack Kerouac. - TMak World

"CMW 2012 Showcase at Rancho Relaxo"

Band 7: Mimi Cry. Let’s not lie to ourselves people, we are a generation that still acknowledges that 90’s alternative rock was the shit. Raspy yet somehow pop style vocals with slightly distorted guitar and high hat filled drumming. Imagine that and you’ll have Mimi Cry. I have to admit I strolled in a little late for my night two adventures but was pleased with what I was able to catch. Nothing to these guys, just alt rock tunage rich with that sweet familiarity of our teen years. Though these guys did seem rather young, their sound was nostalgic for those of us in the proper age bracket. - The Take Media

Bio

MiMi Cry is a five-piece band of 21 year old friends from Newmarket, with lead singer Sean, guitar players Cody and Graham, bass player Richard and drummer Tay. The band plays a high energy, engaging and fun showcase of their recorded music!

They just finished up their debut five-song EP, released at their Canadian Music Week showcase in March. The first two singles “I Wanna Be Your Man” and “Make a Wish” have already caught the attention of the some industry players. They have also been charting in the top 10 on the first two radio stations (Centennial college station and Musiclynk online) approached.

The recordings capture the modern feel of Arcade Fire (a member plays cello on Don’t Wait Up), the rock craftiness the Arctic Monkeys, the post punk polish of the Strokes and the raw edginess of Nirvana – along with Jack Kerouac “stream consciousness” lyric writing on certain tracks.

The have also been playing a number of the high profile clubs around Toronto, including the Hideout for a Canadian Music Week 2013 Showcase in March. They also played a sold out show in their hometown of Newmarket in April.
