MIMIKA Mak Murtic Ensemble

Mimika - Mak Murtic Ensemble was formed in 2010 by composer and saxophonist Mak Murtic. Soon after its formation the ensemble brought to life Mak Murtic’s compositions and arrangements in the form of a groove-based suite: “From Scratch to Structure”.
The forms of music incorporated in the Ensemble's performance are a very eclectic mix of styles. As the music is written in conceptual suites, although all have a strong connection with the curret groove/rhythmic styles, some have a stronger influence from root styles such as big beat, jazz, reggea, folk / world music, hip hop, african roots music and rhythms while other works present stronger inclination towards math rock, atonal, electronic and modern classical music. The music is, however, very well recepted by various audiences.

Ensemble currently performs an hour long groove-based suite “From Scratch to Structure”, which is centred on themes from cultural developments of human species through time and space. It is a journey through man’s cultural evolution, his achievements and failures. The suite is composed of eight movements, each representing a major change in the story of human cultural development: shaping of the language, migration, civilised settlement and isolated groups, the rise of agriculture, appearance of writing, colonisation, urbanisation and the current interwoven world.

The Ensemble is also performing a more psycodelic and electronic, but still groove based suite about the possibility of human settlement on Mars.
