Bio

M I N A will explore the relationship and connectivity between Vedic/Okinawa music, and electronic music. The early work of Stockhausen was inspired by eastern music traditions and celebrated Pre-temporisation of the stipulated scale system.

It is natural for us to think that electronic music and Vedic/Okinawa music are far apart in terms of culture and aesthetic.  MINA explores the symbiosis of these two important and popular forms of music in our sonic visual world.

The project will be based on the Five element; Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Void.

Each song will have a video, whose fluid collages of imagery and sound draw on movies, memory, chance and sensuality. The work abandons traditional narrative in order to explore the possibilities that arise from the juxtaposition, as well as the rhythms and textures, of images and sound.

Mina Mermound (Switzerland) was born in Geneva, with a Swiss father and a Japanese mother.

Studied the violin at Geneva Conservatoire of Music with Armène Stakian until obtaining a certificate of final studies with distinction.

In 2004, during university studies got a scholarship from Japanese Ministry of Education and Culture to study Japanese language and culture in Okinawa for one year.

Learned to play Okinawan traditional music there and wrote a Master thesis about traditional songs.

Back to Switzerland, created a personal project mixing traditional sounds and electronic music. Composed music for strings for hip hop/contemporary dance shows, advertising and short movies. In 2012, co-wrote the music for the electoral campaign of the French president, Francois Hollande.
