"Song Review - "Paper Boy""

"MindsAlike delivers heavy guitar riffs and dynamic vocals that rekindle the days of Seattle's finest. This is music to move your entire body to. You like guitar? You will LOVE this!" . . . . Lior Shamir, Managing Director, We Are Listening Ltd. - 1st May 2006 - We Are Listening Ltd. (UK)

While MindsAlike's bio cites a "smorgasbord of influences from Michael Jackson to Pantera", the Brisbane quartet's new EP Rebirth Of A Way is decidedly more Cowboys From Hell than Thriller. Perry Couch chats to lead guitarist Timmsy and vocalist/guitarist Sean.

Tell us about your experiences recording Rebirth Of A Way?
Timmsy: We recorded Rebirth over at Alchemix studios and Marly (Luske, producer) made the whole process comfortable but exciting at the same time. He was great to work with because he was focused on getting the best performance from the band rather than worry about a lot of "drop-ins" and editing later on. He had a very live way about capturing the band and that made us very comfortable because that's how we play. We came out with what we wanted - a raw, hard-hitting, polished CD. When we hit the studios again later in the year, we'll be tighter as a band, Marly will know how we work and I think the results will be even greater".

What's next for MindsAlike?
Timmsy: "After the CD Launch, our main aim is to get the band out there and noticed, build up the fanbase and get more contacts. Basically generate more interest in MindsAlike. We've got a lot to organise".
Sean: "We'll be back in the studio later in the year to do a full album and hopefully after that, some touring".
Timmsy: "It'll be a busy year for us!" - 21 Feb 06 - RAVE Magazine (Brisbane, Qld.)

"Press Article "MindsAlike""

Rock’n’roll enthusiasts the world over agree that to really rock, a band must be able to conquer the live arena. Brisbane quartet MindsAlike are well aware of this, and are determined to bust out the high voltage with every performance.

“Our style of rock’n’roll is straightforward and to the point, no farting around,” vocalist Sean Dunne says.

“We’ve found the audience will always feed off a band’s energy, so getting up and having a rad time is what it’s all about!”

The band formed in early 2005, when old friends Dunne and bassist Ryan Kemp started jamming. They decided to form a rock band, but needed to recruit some more members.

“Two crazy jams later, drummer Andrew Vines and lead guitarist Timmsy had the hairs standing up on our necks - and the rest is a dream come true,” Dunne says.

With a few songs kicking around in their collective heads, MindsAlike took their hard-edged style of rock’n’roll to the studio to record the EP Rebirth Of A Way.

“The recording process was like a holiday,” Dunne says. “Hassle-free, no dramas, nailed it all in three days. We were really stoked!”

“We released it on the 25th of February this year, and it’s been selling successfully ever since. We plan on recording an album in 2007, which we believe will take a walk through a few different flavours of the band.”

Before that, however, the foursome are honing their live skills with some shows about town. Most notable of these is a charity concert for Oxfam Community Aid Abroad.

“We were asked by the organizers to play and immediately said yes. There are some great bands playing. It’s going to be a huge event! It’s a great cause so we’re stoked to be helping out.”

MindsAlike play the Oxfam Community Aid Abroad fundraiser gig at QUT Guild Bar Friday Jun 2.

Bio

"MindsAlike takes pride in being an Australian original band with a difference; we believe our songwriting is the core to our being". . . . . . With a solid, hard-edged style of rock "MindsAlike" brings it home with awesome riffs, intricate guitar solos, strong vocals and tight gutsy rock melodies.

In June 2006, MindsAlike were the main support to Shifter (signed AU band) at the OXFAM CHALLENGE CHARITY CONCERT at the Q.U.T. Guild Bar in Brisbane. Some weeks later, M.A. was one of the final seven runners up from an original selection of over sixty bands in the "ROCK OFF FINALS - Gold Coast Battle of the Bands” held on the Gold Coast, Queensland. M.A. joined the line-up to support signed Australian bands, Japunga and Sunk Loto, at the PULSE FESTIVAL ‘06 staged at QUT Guild Bar (Brisbane) on 29 July ’06. More recently M.A. were one of the main players in achieving a "SELL-OUT" show at The Living Room in Brisbane when they supported local hip hop act 'No Filter' for their Debut CD Launch.

The band formed in May 2005 and since the release of their self-produced EP “Rebirth Of A Way” ten months later in March 2006, the band has been supported with Brisbane radio airplay courtesy of community radio station 4ZZZ (102.1FM) and more recently Brisbanes' BayFM 100.3.

With very encouraging sales of the EP at their live shows, M.A. has now included distribution via Brisbane music stores Rockinghorse, Skinnys and Replay CDs as well as Gold Coast stores Head Hi Music (Burleigh Heads) and Rare Groove Records (Nobby Beach).

The band regularly performs at many of Brisbane's premier live music venues including The Zoo, QUT Guild Bar, The Rev, and the Living Room and no M.A. show is complete without a merchandise stand that includes T-shirts, stickers and their EP.

"M.A.'s music reflects an immense smorgasbord of influences ~ from Motley Crue to Michael Jackson ~ from the Blues Brothers to Pantera; we love it all. Obviously hard rock takes the stage when it comes to M.A. but it's great to hear what each of us can bring to our songs. A cultivation of sounds we'd each never have considered before, has come to life in this band" (Sean Dunne ~ MindsAlike).

MindsAlike conduct their own management of bookings, promotion, networking, merchandise sales and MySpace Profile and distribution of their self-produced self-funded EP through local music stores.

Meanwhile, this productive quartet is busily writing new material for their next recording.
