"Mind's Hideaway Acoustic Show Critique"

I saw these guys at the Open Mic Night on Sept. 18th in the Roost. They were the last ones to play, and were really good. I liked the originals I heard, and they did an awesome job on covering some Sublime and 311. Their sound has that jam feel to it, with a harder rock twist. The lead singer, Graham, has a very cool, raspy voice, and Eric, the other guitarist blends nice bass harmonies into the vocals. If itís possible to excuse the excessive language, I think they'd be an awesome band to have play here. - Aymee Jones, Elmhurst College MBSU

"Mind's Hideaway "burn one for a friend" demo Critique"

With driving bass lines, upbeat vocals, and sweetly laid guitar work, Mind's Hideaway pushes a product guaranteed to satisfy the harshest critics. With songs that put me in mind of Sublime, Incubus, and Green Day, this demo has that unmistakable quality of worthy music to transcend stylistic labels and enter the realm of just damn good.
Rating (out of 5): 5, definitely 5
Preferred Track: 1. Theme Song. The music is drivingly simple, but the subtle complexities make this song truly great. I also like the breakdown at the end of Track 3. Enough Already

For Immediate Release

“Alterna-Jam” Rockers Mind’s Hideaway to Play Free June Residency in Villa Park and Offer Free Song Download to Support Newly Released Music Mastered by Ides Of March Engineer

Villa Park, IL -- May 26, 2009 -- Local rock band mind’s hideaway is releasing the first track from their upcoming album for free download. They will also be playing a weekly Thursday night free show beginning May 21st at Ayala’s Restaurant and Bar in Villa Park in support of the release. The new music was mastered in Jim Peterik’s studio by Larry Millas, guitarist and recording engineer for The Ides of March.

Mind’s hideaway has been playing the Chicagoland music scene for six years, and derives their self-styled “alterna-jam” label from their funky mix of 90’s alternative rock (Green Day, Pearl Jam), punk-influenced reggae (Sublime, 311), and jam band flavors (Phish, The Allman Brothers). They have opened for such notable bands as Local H, The Wailers, and Mr. Blotto. Last summer mind’s hideaway rocked the Taste of Chicago, the Taste of Lombard, and organized a benefit concert that raised more than $2000 for the Ray Graham Association, an organization that supports over 2,500 adults with disabilities in Northern Illinois.

Their upcoming full length album debut was recorded and mixed by members Joe Day and Graham Bridgman in their basement studio in Villa Park. It is mind’s hideaway’s first studio recording with Alaskan import Joe Day adding his wide range of piano, organ, trombone, percussion, mandolin, and synthesizer tones. In April, the band was thrilled when veteran studio engineer Larry Millas (The Ides of March, Pride of Lions) agreed to master the project in the studio of singer/composer Jim Peterik (The Ides of March, Survivor) in Burr Ridge, IL. The first track “Waste” can currently be downloaded for free directly from their myspace page (www.myspace.com/mindshideawaymusic). The complete album will hit their website (www.mindshideaway.com) this summer.

To support the release of their new song, mind’s hideaway is performing a series of shows in Chicago and the suburbs, including a free weekly Thursday night show at Ayala’s Bar in Villa Park, IL. “Thirsty Thursdays” with mind’s hideaway will begin May 21st and continue every Thursday through June. Additionally, you can see the band perform this spring and summer at venues such as US Beer Company, Cubby Bear, Lunar Brewing Company, Red Line Tap, The Mutiny, and Goose Island Brewpub. They will also be headlining the Who Else Festival June 6th in Nelson, IL and playing MelonKamp III in Noblesville, IN the weekend of August 8th. A complete schedule is available on their myspace page and electronic press kit (www.sonicbids.com/minds hideaway).

Bio

Three parts Chicago suburbs and one part Alaska combine to make mind's hideaway. This is where good time jam band music meets unapologetic, in your face alternative rock. mind's hideaway rides the connection between the original, important rock of the '60s and the next generation of rebels from the '90s onwards. They are interested in similarities between bands like The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Allman Brothers and their modern day contemporaries such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Phish. mind's hideaway also believes very strongly in making human rights the central platform for all public policy. They organized "The Jamout to Help Ray Graham Out" in June of '07 in Elmhurst, IL and helped raise over $2000 for the Ray Graham Association, a non-profit that supports adults with special needs. mind's hideaway has opened for such national acts as Local H and The Wailers and played countless venues including Cubby Bear Wrigleyville and Kinetic Playground. At the 2008 Taste of Chicago, the band turned a 45 minute set into an hour and a half rockathon when the following band was running late. Their new full length album, "Supercollider" was released in November to great fanfare.
