Bio

Montreal indie folk-rock outfit Mind that Bird released their debut EP, To the Temple, Through This City, on April 30th, 2012. Recorded at Breakglass Studios by James Benjamin (Karkwa, the Breezes), the EP features six stunning tracks that showcase the versatile talents of the group, from intimate album opener “Get to You First”, to the dark klezmer folk of “Under the Fog”, to the swelling and roaring closer “Carry it on”.

Mind that Bird was formed in late 2010 by lead vocalist and guitarist Dylan Perkons who, at the time, was making a name for himself in the Montreal music scene as an up-and-coming voice in the already highly regarded singer/songwriter community. He recruited Lisa Malachoski (Heirloom, Valleymakers) on piano and organ, Adrian Bergman (Scotch) on bass , Terry Boisvert (Bamboo Diet, Kicking Television) on Guitar, and Rob De Koninck (Glass Passenger) on drums to form the core line-up of the group.

Mind that Bird was joined in the studio by frequent live players Ariel Swan (Little Scream, Heirloom) on violin, Quinn Brander (Heirloom, Lakes of Canada) on cello and Sebastien Fornier (Les Breastfeeders) on trumpet. The six song EP brims with clear, inspired arrangements, allowing for the songs to move beyond the confines of the genre, into a more extraordinary place. The mix of orchestral instrumentation and hard-hitting acoustic rock is engaging and powerful, creating an emotional landscape for gripping and honest lyrics.

The band will be promoting To the Temple, Through This City for the rest of the year, playing shows and festivals in Montreal and beyond.
