"From Buffalo to LA, singer Mindy Davey soaring to musical success"

"Morgan's Song" artist, Mindy Davey is growing into her stardom - just this week recording at Capitol Records in Los Angeles and sharing the same recording booth as stars such as, Ariana Grande, Paul McCartney, Tori Kelly, and Norah Jones.

This is something she once only dreamed of, and with perseverance, dedication and passion, that dream became reality.

Mindy has been performing as a singer-songwriter for years, and this big break is not only exciting for her, but also for her hometown.

Catch her video message, taken from the studio at Capitol Records, with Mindy's manager, Mike Letica and Producer, Nathan Walters.

Mindy was introduced to the Hope Rises mission after seeing a post about a young girl who thought about ending her life due to bullying. Mindy contacted us, wishing to do more to help and show this young girl love.

Not only did she collect cards and gifts of love, she was inspired to write "Morgan's Song", which went viral across her community. "Morgan's Song" is not just a musical hit, it became a teaching lesson on the devastating effects of bullying. - Kate Glaser

"Local bullied girl gets message of love from across the state"

As we head into the new school year it can be an exciting time for many but for some children who have been bullied, it can be a terrifying thought.

For one local girl, bullying pushed her to think about taking her own life.

The inspiration for “Morgan’s Song”, written and performed by Mindy Davey in Western New York, came from right here in the Capital Region.

“I was feeling down about myself because I was getting bullied at school,” Morgan Lorey, 12, said. “I didn’t feel like anyone cared about me.”

Morgan says she started to think the worst.

“If I did commit suicide, I didn’t think anyone cared.”

“It was very difficult. It’s probably one of the worst days of my life,” Morgan’s mother Susan said.

Morgan’s mother Susan got her daughter professional help and then she took to social media.

“I posted on Facebook asking for cards and letters and just encouraging words for her.”

Morgan received hundreds of words of encouragement but the best gift was yet to come.

“It was kind of surprising to me that someone would take time out of their day and write a song about me,” Morgan said.

Davey had come across Morgan’s story on social media and after her own experiences with bullying, decided to do something to show her support.

“It played a really big part in Morgan’s healing. She listened to it several times a day,” Susan said.

“It made me feel like I actually did matter to people because people I didn’t even know were reaching out to me,” Morgan said.

Morgan and Davey were able to meet and celebrate life and music together.

Now, Morgan is sharing her story, hoping it will help someone else.

“There are people out there that care. Even if you feel like there aren’t, there is always someone out there. If you’re struggling, reach out,” Susan said.

“I just hope that when they see my story, it will make them feel better too,” Morgan said.

"Mindy Davey is a Musician with a Message"

BUFFALO, NY - Since she first opened a guitar case at age 13, singing and playing has come naturally to Mindy Davey.
"I actually don't know any notes on the guitar at all. I learned it all by ear and by sound," she said, while practicing at a studio at GCR Audio, which is owned by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls.

Life is definitely approaching a high note for Davey, 23, a singer-songwriter from Clarence who will release her first album, Humanity, next month.
These days are in stark contrast to another time not so long ago, personified in a track called “The Fall”.
“The Fall is about my recovery. I am four years and five months sober, and I kinda wrote it about my life and my struggles and my addictions but also my recovery and to pretty much raise awareness to other people that are struggling as well," she said.
The Fall, tells the story of a 16 year old girl, somewhat of a social outcast, beset by problems including the severe illness of her mother.
A girl, who made a fateful choice when she went to a party one night with friends.
It is Davey’s own story.
"I kinda took all my emotions from not having anyone to talk to, with my mom going through what she was going through, and it started right at that party,” she said, speaking frankly about the choice she made to take drugs.
According to Davey, her drug use caused her life to spin quickly out of control.
“I had two drugs of choice…opiates, in the form of pain pills, as well as crack cocaine," she recalled.
Soon, her habit lead her to begin taking things, in order to take those drugs.
“I was stealing from my...my family ...and it just got out of control," she said.
Eventually, Davey dropped out of high school. But for her, the fall was far from over.
“For me, rock bottom was when I lost my family. I got kicked out of my house, and my boyfriend at the time, who I was dating for four and a half years, left me. He couldn’t deal with it…and that's when I checked myself into Horizons," she said, referring to a Western New York based treatment and recovery agency. It was while in reIt was while in rehab that she soon learned, that she was not going through this alone after all.
“A week into rehab, I was taking my (drug) test, and the lady told me I was pregnant," said Davey.
Davey might have been able to stomach being an addict, but she could not stomach the thought of passing that addiction on to the life growing inside of her….whom she credits, in the song, with saving her own.
“My baby changed my life,” she said.
Her daughter, Arianna, will turn four in July, and Davey is back on track with her relationship with her family, as well as Arianna’s father, the boyfriend she once lost due to her addiction with drugs.
“We’re actually getting married in month,” she beamed.
While Davey was finally able to find her path to escape addiction, she knows there are countless others who have not.
So she recently took her talents and her message to rehab center for young people in West Seneca.
“They came into that room and they didn’t want to be there,” she said. “And to me, I felt a negative energy in the room."
Davey talked to the group, and then played for them, and then noticed that through her music, they began to relate to their own fall, through the story of hers.
“They started hugging me at the end and I could see it in their eyes that I made an impact on them.”
It also made an impact on Davey, so much so that she has agreed to travel to Duluth, Minnesota next month to speak and to sing at four high schools, where she aims to spread a message of hope. - WGRZ Staff

"Local Coffee Shop Hosts Anti-bullying Fundraiser with Singer"

Bullying is something that affects far too many children, but a singer from New York and the owner of a local coffee shop in Duluth are working together to help local kids struggling with bullying.

Letica's Iron Mug hosted a pancake breakfast Saturday, a fundraiser that benefits T.E.A.C.H. an anti-bullying organization that stands for talk, educate, action, compassion, and hope.

"We're going to focus on the victims to see if we can make them feel better. 3,500 kids a day attempt suicide or think about suicide. That number just appalled me. I thought if we can reach out to a few of them and make them happy, if we can save one kid, we're doing good,” Mike Letica, the owner of Letica’s Iron Mug and organizer of the fundraising event, said.

"Strangers united by 'Morgan's Song'"

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Mindy Davey is no stranger to being bullied. So when she read about 11-year-old Morgan Lorey's struggle, she immediately reached out in support.
"A lot of people think they're alone through it, but in reality there's actually a lot of people that go through it," Davey said. She's a singer-songwriter from Buffalo who tours the country performing her music. "So to come together as one and to really combat it as a team, you can get through it a lot better."
Morgan lives just outside of Albany. She was bullied at school and had issues in her home life, to the point where she felt all alone.
"I was considering ending my life, because I didn't feel as though anyone cared if I died," Morgan said.

After spending 24 hours with Morgan in the crisis department, her mother Susan reached out to Hope Rises, a WNY-based Facebook initiative that spreads stories of goodwill. Together Susan and Kate Glaser, founder of Hope Rises, started a kindness campaign, which has led to hundreds of strangers reaching out to Morgan.
Davey was one of those strangers, who wrote a note three-and-a-half minutes long. 'Morgan's Song' is written from her experiences with bullying, and supports Morgan as she moves forward.
Morgan says she's doing better, and wants to begin to help others who feel the way she did. She says she's shared 'Morgan's Song' with her classmates, and it's already begun to help a few of them.
Davey and Morgan will meet for the first time on April 7 when Davey drives out to meet the pre-teen. On April 8, Davey will release 'Morgan's Song' to the public. - Chris DiMaria
