Bio

Ming’s Pretty Heroes is the musical manifestation of Rotterdam’s Ai Ming Oei, singer and songwriter, born in 1985. Other band members are producers, guitarist and key player Sander van Dijck, Frans Verburg, bassist Juan Manssens and drummer Jordi Geuens . After the release of their debut album, ‘Ok Mr. Mix’ in September of 2009, the band kicked off 2010 with a three-week tour of Germany, followed by a visit to the Far East, which culminated in a show at Beijing’s MIDI Festival. Ming’s Pretty Heroes topped off the year by winning the prestigious Music Matters Award, previously won by Sabrina Starke and Ntjam Rosie, that comprised of a cash incentive prize and the opportunity to be Music Ambassador of Rotterdam for the year 2011.

The financial boost from winning this award made it possible to begin production on ‘Karma’, the second album from Ming’s Pretty Heroes. In between recording and mixing sessions, the band took off once again for a more extensive tour of China in April, playing at various festivals and in several clubs in cities such as Shanghai, Chengdu and Beijing. With their Chinese fans firmly entrenched in their hearts, Ming and producers Sander van Dijck and Frans Verburg have recently wrapped up production on this newest album, where Ming’s personal karma forms the foundation upon which the new songs are built. Be prepared for personal, intense songs, enveloped by the beautiful, shadowy sounds of guitars, drum computers, paper wads(!) and Casio keyboard samples. The lyrical Fiona Apple, Feist, Regina Spektor and Kate Bush share a bed with the sound-conscious Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Imogen Heap, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Björk. Eruptions and climaxes are out in full force, and four-on-the-floor seems to have made a return.

‘Karma’ will be available as of September 2nd, 2011.
