Biography

Mingus Murray is hip upcoming guitarist, singer/ songwriter, and multi instrumentalist from New York City. The son of jazz great David Murray, Mingus grew up with deep appreciation for jazz, as he was raised around the music. Though reared in Jazz music, mingus sound freshly incorporates the edge of rock and roll the Sly Stone good time feelings of funk, with the heartfelt lyrics of soul, with touch of electro groove. A self taught musican, who despite never taking formal classes has managed to garnered the respect of musician around the globe in short period, with his infectious funk licks, soulful vocals, and electric stage prescence. He has managed to work and collaborate with vast array of artist including Roots, Sa Ra Collective, Last Poets,Mos Def, Talib Kweli,Gil Scott Heron, George Clinton,Dallas Austin, David Murray, Wyton Marseilles, Jamaaldeen Tacuma and various singers around world. Initially inspired by Prince Jimi Hendrix and P funk, he began adding modern elements to his music but still keeps the rawness of the 60’s with healthy touch of electro grooves. Mingus latest single "Designer" is an ode to nightlife and all the wonderful experiences it has to offer a young man. “Train Whistle” is a song inspired by Albert Murray’s book Train Whistle Guitar and goes through the historical struggle of self-artistry in America. Mingus is ready to share his electrified sound and tempting song writing with the world.
