Mini Jacket

Mini Jacket

BandAmericanaAlternative

Female singer/songwriter with alternative americana twist on 60's folk and psychedelic rock.

Biography

Fronted by singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist, Mechelle Zydenbos uses metaphor and plays with words in such a way that the listener may at first miss the intensity and weight of lyrics disguised by sweet catch phrases and easy to follow hooks.

Backed, powered and co-arranged by, lead guitar player Ben Foote, bassist David Foster, Patrick Williams on keys and drummer Michael Freeman, this band invites sound that tastes of dark 1960's spacey folk-rock, "alt-country" flavourings and haunting, thirsty vamps. Sentimental, melodic tones leave the listener missing things that don't exist while at the same time feeling mysteriously hopeful.

MINI JACKET has been working together for three years. They continue to develop and discover their sound at a consistant "Steady as she goes" pace, to ensure to themselves and their audience that they are creating music with dynamic integrity and honest ambition, resulted by the quest of musical evolution and creative process that is unique to themselves.

Their three song EP offers a sample and clean listen to their efforts thus far. Blessed by the fortune of amazing grace and unheard of luck, this demo was produced by Grammy Award Winning Producer David Leonard. Leonard's name is a credit to talents such as Prince, Shawn Colvin, K.D. Lang, Barenakedladies, RUSH, Dwight Yokem and Paul McCartney, (just to shamelessly name-drop a few).

The EP was recorded at "the" drop-dead, gorgeous, top-of-the-line studios of Bennet Chandler's STUDIO.METRONOME located in Brookline, New Hampshire. MINI JACKET was granted the privilege of working with these two industry professionals and their belief that this music is viable and worthy of being heard and seen.

MINI JACKET looks forward to seeing and hearing from you all soon.

Lyrics

Shapeshifted

Written By: Mechelle Zydenbos

Darling when are you coming home?
Darling when are you coming home?
'cause I've been lonely and I've been blue
it ain't anything due to nothin' I feel
since I lost you.

Now I'm drinkin' like the weatherman calls for rain
and it's pouring down all around me now
and I'm sinkin' into the hope of all that's life
well I see you everywhere that you won't come around

well I've been bought, bartered and sold and now the sunshine just leads me on

I've been wrecked and I've been spent,
but it ain't anything due to nothin' I feel-since I lost you.

I've been unfaithful to all I know
but I was true to the fantasy
a lifetime of me and you.

I was taunted and I was freed
found inside the misery, in the hour of love's denial.

Well I've been Shape-shifted and spent now the darkness just brings it on

I've been sick and I've been sad, but it ain't anything due to nothin' I feel-since I lost you.

Darling when are you coming home?
Darling when are you coming home?
'cause I've been lonely and I've been blue,
it ain't anything due to nothin' I feel
since I lost you.

no, it ain't anything due to nothin' I feel

since I lost you.

Pistol Smile

Written By: Mechelle Zydenbos

I sent out the minions of my soul.
I sent 'em to collect whole and calm
when they came back
empty-handed,
I slapped their wrists
and sent 'em to bed
the girl upstairs from me
she plays guitar
crazy as the day is long
she tells me
to "Walk in light and Love"
I swear to god I don't know what she's talkin' about.

There ain't no supper for you tonight
no arms have ever been
strong enough for you
load your Pistol Smile, baby
there's people waitin' for your sunshine in the streets downtown
everyone wants to feel
everybody wants to feel
good tonight

I drank with a girl last Tuesday
she said she felt guilty 'bout her "lack of interest for small-talk".
I told her that I understood, maybe it's a flaw or not
everyone can feel the same way.
I pretended to comfort her as she pretended to cry, we laughed about it as he walked away, maybe it's selfish, but it's a sin to lie.

the other day I dreamt out loud and thought if the universe could hear than maybe I'd be heard with my prayer and pills for pain
I wished for release and freedom
crystal-caveman said that I had healing hands, so I washed them in Rose and Salts and I held my face and I tried.

There ain't no supper for you tonight
no arms have ever been
strong enough for you
load your Pistol Smile, baby
there's people waitin' for your sunshine in the streets downtown
everyone wants to feel
everybody wants to feel
good tonight

load your Pistol Smile, baby
there's people waitin' for your sunshine in the streets downtown
everyone wants to feel
everybody wants to feel
good tonight

Follow You Down

Written By: Mechelle Zydenbos

Sign the list
of sweetness kissed
still your bitterness
I would often miss

where you go
and what you do
I'll follow you down all the way

so take me home
I'm never there
things change
but I never do

and I believe
the fire burns hot inside
darling
I still belong to you

so where you go
and what you do
I'll follow you down all the way
I'll follow you down all the way

so where you go
and what you do

so many places
some on my way
but I'm further still
from where I want to be

like a flower to the sun
up into your heart
love begins the dream
you still belong to me

so where you go
and what you do
I'll follow you down all the way
I'll follow you down all the way
I'll follow you down all the way.
