"Leading Not Through Miracles But The Story of The Miracle"

Leading not through miracles, but the story of the miracle.
By David Bumgarner of WBFJ-FM's Crossroad Radio.
If ever I’m struggling to think of a gift
to get my wife, I always have a fallback.
She loves Willow Tree angels. I
can’t go wrong with one of those faceless,
winged creations and whatever event or
emotion they happen to be conveying. One
of my more recent gifts was the Angel of
Miracles in which the angel gazes (if gazing
can be done without a face) down on
the miracle of a baby chick hatching from
an egg.
For the members of Cana, Va., based
band, Miracle Made ( Joe Holder – guitar/
vocals, Amanda Leonard – vocals, Kevin
Gwyn – drums, and Barry Niten – bass)
the significance of their name comes not
from the first birth, but the second, found
only through dying to self and finding new
life in Christ.
Holder says, “As I was writing the
songs, I began thinking about the what I
would call the album.” At Firehouse Ministries,
which the band calls home, Pastor
Larry Johnson had been preaching a lot
about miracles from the Bible and how, if
we followed God’s plan, that we should
expect miracles in our own lives. I thought
that the way God had saved me from a life
of sin and placed Amanda in my life (more
on this below) and put me in a church
where I was truly excited about worshiping
God for the first time and gave me the
songs that I was writing was a ‘Miracle
Made’ by God. So that’s what I decided
to name the album and later thought it
would make a good band name too.”
All of the band’s members knew each
other from the local rock music scene, having
played in various bands growing up.
Miracle Made began to take shape when
Leonard, who works with Holder’s wife
invited their family to attend services with
them at Firehouse. Leonard was working
on a musical project of her own and
asked Holder for help. The result ended
up becoming the first Miracle Made CD
after Holder began to write songs to help
complete the project. After recording at
Eastwood Studios in Cana, Va., with Wesley
Easter co-producing with Holder, the
CD debuted in June 2008. Since then the
CD has been picked up for national release
through Tate Music Group in Oklahoma
City, OK, after the indie label heard the
song “Finding Yourself.” Currently the
label is in the process of redesigning the
CD’s artwork.
As for how Gwyn and Niten came on
board, Holder says, “Amanda and I began
playing some acoustic shows at churches
and coffee shops all the while searching
and praying for band members. One Sunday,
I saw Kevin in the lobby of Firehouse
and got excited because I knew he could be
the drummer Amanda and I needed for a
band. Kevin contacted Barry about playing
bass and, just before Christmas 2008, we
finally got to practice together. We played
our first show as a band on January 24th
at Moby’s Coffee in Winston-Salem.”
As with most bands, Miracle Made
cites a wide variety of influences, including
southern rock, classic rock, country, ’80s
hair metal (!) and current Christian rock/
worship bands such as Third Day and
Casting Crowns.
Miracle Made’s mission, according to
Holder, is “to lead people to Christ, give
teens and young adults a sense of who
they are in Christ and to let them know
that God has a plan for all of our lives.”
It’s a mission you can see them put into
practice tomorrow at Harvest Temple
Church of God in King as part of Savior
’09. I’ll be there to host the event as well.

Bio

Miracle Made is a Christian rock band from North Carolina. We are passionate about using our music as a tool to minister to people from all walks of life. It is our greatest prayer as a band for people to come to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior and to develop a personal relationship with him. We strive to bring a message of hope and forgiveness to our listeners in a style of music that is familiar and refreshing. We like to think of ourselves as a God-focused alternative to secular music. We want people to understand that God has a plan for their life, that he knew them before they were even born, that he loves them beyond all reason and always will. At a Miracle Made event, you can expect to hear us being led by God to minister to the audience through the songs and words that he has given us. We pray that God will bless Miracle Made so that we may be a blessing to others.
