Biography

Mirella Pirskanen is a Finnish violinist and singer who has developed her own unique way to sing and play at the same time. She was born in Finland in 1973, lived 10 years in Sweden and since 1999 her home is in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Mirella has a colourful carreer as a performer playing with worldmusic ensembles such as Los Monos del Inferno, Sunday Tea ensemble, Canto Sur,Mariachi Tierra Caliente, accordionist Minna weurlander etc. She played with CIRQUE DU SOLEIL and the Dutch group Flairck. In April 2008 Mirella returned home from her adventure with the world famous Cirque Du Soleil. Since her home coming Mirella has been focusing to realize her solo program, 'VioVoce', for violin and voice. ‘VioVoce‘ consists of Mirella‘s own compositions and arrangements of traditional Finnish and Scandinavian music. She likes to combine Nordic melodies with the playful and challenging rhythms of the East European folkloric music. Being a classically trained violinist and singer, Mirella’s music also has elements of contemporary classical music. Being a devoted improviser, she often includes a moment of improvisation in her compositions, giving a piece space to expand and live in the moment. Mirella does not use lyrics is her music but let the two voices/instruments clolour each others in a unique way.

“Mirella is a very talented violin player and singer with a vibrant and energetic performance. A great artist!” May 6, 2009
