"September 2012"

Their isn't a weak track out of the bunch and I just cannot get enough of Miraka's voice. It has such a seductively sultry tone to it that I am in love with. - Zombie Music

"October 2012"

This album (The Little Ginger In Me Loves The Little Ginger In You) is a melting pot of pop, rock, vaudeville and electro while some of the lyrics for singles such as ‘Red Headed Woman’ or ‘Legs 4 Africa’ and ‘Miranda’ ( A love song about a girl crush to model Miranda Kerr) hold loads of humour. - Beauty And The Snob

Bio

Former Quebec Canada Songwriter of the Year and current Brighton UK resident, Mirika will surely be adored by those who admire the offerings of artists such as Karen O, Peaches, Santagold and all the feisty female musicians that carve a mainstream niche while standing just outside it. Her recently released third album, The Little Ginger In Me Loves The Little Ginger In You, is a Technicolor blend of hip hop, blues and cabaret into an indie pop tapestry. A winning combination that prompted EMC Lifestyle, Canada to boldly declare,

‘Mirika’s music is the best of both worlds. It pleases the critics with its poetry and lyricism and likewise the listening public with its catchy melodies and hooky pop rhythms’.

The response in the UK has been equally as glowing. With two ‘Top 10’s’ within the first week of 2013, venues filled to the brim and national airplay on the likes of the BBC6. While Mirika showed off her bass styles fronting cult bass/drum duo Kit&Con in 2011, ‘The Little Ginger In Me Loves The Little Ginger In You' was written in the wake of an arm injury which left her unable to play bass for two years. Not being able to play her ‘weapon of choice’ Mirika experiments with everything from xylophones to nose harps, thumb pianos, keys and strings- determined to play at least one instrument on each of the 14 tracks.

It is this determination that has seen this independent songstress extensively tour the world. In her native Canada, Mirika began writing songs at 8, was fronting bands by 14, toured Canada at 16 and was making music internationally by her 20th birthday. Using her songs as photographs, Mirika’s creations are satirical, playful and undeniably rhythmic- a sound critics describe as ‘genre-bending’ but she simply calls ‘Quirk Pop’.

Whether or not Mirika makes music people can categorise, they are lapping it up. Flanked by her stellar backing band, The Wealthy Commons, audiences have done everything short of jumping on the sound guy so that they can continue to play encore after encore.

Mirika is able to make the unusual truly accessible. You may not have heard music like this before, but you will want to hear it again, and again.
