MIRKA
With the release of her sixth album Where I Belong, Mirka believes it is more than just a title; it’s destiny! The room lights up as she shows her excitement in her characteristic vibrant way. “As a little girl, I used to dream about living and performing in the United States. Being from Pretoria, South Africa, my signature sound was born out of a unique cultural upbringing and musical influences. Where I Belong is an accurate statement and sound of who I am today,” she says.

Signed with EMI while residing in South Africa, Mirka released a bilingual Country album entitled Eden. It was very clear that this hard working musician, with her dedication and amazing work ethic, was destined to make her way to music city, Nashville, especially after being awarded Best Bilingual Country-Rock Album of the Year!

With Where I Belong, brilliantly produced by Grammy nominee Kent Wells, Mirka is showcasing her talents yet again. Where I Belong is a collection of country/pop songs reflecting on relationships, commitment, honesty, hope and love. It’s an extraordinary volume of works that uplift and inspire the listener to a higher sense of purpose and meaning. Mirka’s unique style, powerful voice and writing talent as well as her outgoing personality portray who she is as an artist and person.

Watching this Entertainer strum her guitar to the beat of her original song Beautiful People, captures the passion Mirka feels for people from all walks of life. She is one who appreciates the diversities and cultures of the world.

Love Still Can, a powerful song co-written with Marty Brown, reminds the listener that love can move a mountain, heal a heart and put together what’s torn apart. Mirka inspires you through her message and it’s in her personality where it all originates.

It’s easy to relate to Mirka’s ballad World of Strangers, about life’s injustices and how we can choose to forgive and rise above our circumstances. It clearly shows the artist’s positive outlook on life.

The song Everybody Needs Somebody, was inspired by Mirka’s involvement in life-changing projects in the township of Mamelodi, a poverty-stricken area on the outskirts of Pretoria, South Africa; Musical Mirka in Mamelodi where she introduced and taught under privileged children the art of music and the project Christmas in Mamelodi, Africa, a CD she recorded with six AIDS orphaned children. Her gentle and intriguing approach to people, but especially children, immediately draws one closer to her. Mirka’s contributions of time, talent and love have influenced their lives for the better and were one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. “You cannot always change their situation, but you can give the children a vision of a better future and hopefully open their eyes to a world of possibilities.”

The bonus track Colors of Africa, a glimpse into Mirka’s heritage, shines the light on the positive side of the African nation and expresses the deep love she has for her country and its people.

The lyrics “it might be tomorrow or it might be today, that love’s gonna come my way”, in the ballad You Never Know, encourages those who are still longing for true love. “I’ve waited many years for the love of my life, not knowing where or who he was. I thought he was a million miles away, but he was actually right next door.” You can feel the emotion as she open-heartedly share the tender moment when she married her lifelong friend.

“Music is my faithful companion and my voice when words escape me. I had a stereo and headphones as a child and I used to listen to the Top 20 looking for answers, motivation and comfort in music.” As the lyrics of One Song, which I wrote with Sarah Majors expresses, “It’s always been a part of me and I am here to sing!”

The Singer’s contentment is expressed in Simple Things. “I enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life. Sometimes we tend to focus too much on our goals for the future or our mistakes of the past. I would like to encourage people to enjoy and appreciate every moment.”
