Bio

Mirrorkicks formed in 2008 in Streatham, South London. Having met at school Gerard, Edwin and brothers Anil and Ingmar performed together in a number of different bands through college and university. This saw Gerard, Edwin and Ingmar support Razorlight following the release of an early EP as The Medicine. During this time Anil toured internationally as a guitarist and backing vocalist for Imogen Heap and recently directed a forty-piece choir for her debut performance of Love The Earth at the Royal Albert Hall.

Using little more than a PC, Mirrorkicks recorded their debut album Mirrorkicks in their own cobbled-together basement studio, which was then mixed and mastered by Bob Macciochi of Subvert Central Mastering. Along with their manager, the band formed their own independant record label, Fruit Pie Records, and in September 2009 released the first single from the album, 'Turning up'. Following the release of two further singles, 'Anything' and 'Podium', the band released the album in April 2010. Despite having been recorded on a low budget the album received great reviews: NME "Angular riffs, pop sensibilities and big choruses!", Artrocker "An excitingly cinematic indie-punk ride!", Allgigs "Nigh on perfect as a debut piece" and were soon playlisted on over 50 UK radio stations including XFM and Kerrang!. Mirrorkicks gained the support of Razorlight (who DJ'd at the album launch show) as well as the SXSW festival, who invited the band to perform both in 2009 and 2010. The album also attracted the attention of award-winning director Steve Price, who loved it so much that he went on to shoot four videos for the album. The band also shot their own animated video for the song 'Lego', which took over 6 months and 10,000 individual photographs.

In Autumn 2010 Edwin left the band to pursue other projects. Over Christmas 2010, Mirrorkicks recorded a new four track EP with award-winning engineer and producer James Towler at Steve Winwood's Wincraft Studios. The EP was released on 4th April 2011.

Mirrorkicks are back in the studio with James for EP 2 Jan 2012. The band also caught the ear of legendary producer Guy Sigsworth who attended the last EP launch party. He will be producing a song with the band in the next few weeks.
