Bio
Mischievous Swing is a Tulsa-based group that plays a variety of jazz influenced music on acoustic instruments- fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and bass. Their repertoire is primarily comprised of swing, gyspy jazz, Latin jazz, and “dawg” music including a number of original compositions with influence from icons like Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, David Grisman, and the Rosenburg Trio. The group’s fiddle player, Shelby Eicher, is a well-known Tulsa musician who spent 15 years playing with country legend Roy Clark, but in most recent years has established himself as the jazz violinist of Oklahoma. His son, Isaac Eicher, a former winner of the Walnut Valley Mandolin Championship in Winfield, KS brings the mandolin to the gypsy jazz world in an innovative way. Ivan Peña holds down the guitar duties of the group, showing the energy and excitement of a true gypsy jazz artist. Finally, Nathan Eicher, another of Shelby’s boys and a former graduate of the UCO Jazz Lab Master’s Program, completes the bottom end on bass. Each musician comes together under the same artistic passion for playing hot, tasteful acoustic music reminiscent of the Hot Club de France.
