"Instruments flowing wonderfully and pretty harmonies throughout"

So, after finishing finals and moving back to Phoenix for the summer, we are finally back and you can expect much more regular posts now. I was recently given a recommendation to listen to this new band called Miserable Crush. Usually, bands that have very few songs and almost no publicity so far sound like they learned their instruments yesterday and recorded it with a toy tape recorder. This band is not like that at all. On their website, their bio says this: "Identified by deeply relatable and witty lyrics, the songs of Miserable Crush feature a core sound of guitar, piano, bass, and drums, while integrating less common instruments like the cello, tin whistle, banjo, and ukulele."; They are an Indie Folk band consisting of two brothers Mitchell and Matthew White. Their influences that they list on their website are: Death Cab For Cutie, Barenaked Ladies, Sufjan Stevens, Guster, and Korn. I can definitely hear the first two in their music. It is just all around pleasant music to listen to with all of the instruments flowing wonderfully and pretty harmonies throughout. It is definitely exciting to follow a band as they are just starting out. They have six songs out so far and I cant wait to hear more! Check them out and show them some support by sharing their music, which is free to download on their Facebook. - Melodic Music Project

"Guys like Miserable Crush are starting to build up some exposure for the southwestern part of the U.S."

Socorro, New Mexico isn’t really known for its folk/alternative music. However, guys like Miserable Crush are starting to build up some exposure for the southwestern part of the U.S. Their song “Always” has the basic elements of a folk song with the slow tempo, little percussion, and some banjo. But coupling those elements with some relatable lyrics, the song boasts some awesome traits. This track was just released so be sure to watch out for more from Miserable Crush in the future! - RadCircle

Bio

Both of us have always been somewhat musical, but it was separately so. The first instrument I learned to play was the cello - which was promptly put aside when we moved to a school that didn't have an orchestra. For a few years, I didn't play anything. My brother Mitchell, meanwhile, was singing in choir and getting shifted around from instrument to instrument in the school band until he finally got settled on the drums. Even when I finally started playing music again, when I started learning the keyboard, the guitar, and the tin whistle, Mitchell and I weren't playing together.

The thing that got it started, really, was one show. Somebody was trying to put on a fundraiser and they needed a band. My brothers heard about it and somehow I got pulled in as the guitarist. My older brother Tad did the vocals and Mitchell played the drums. We practiced compulsively and I wrote a few songs for the occasion.

When the show finally did come, virtually nobody showed up to the event. But it was alright, playing to that empty space. Something felt right about playing, so we kept playing together for the rest of the summer. When summer ended and college came around again, Mitchell and I kept playing together. I kept writing. He kept drumming. And between the two of us, Miserable Crush was formed.
