Bio

Raised in Madrid, singer songwriter Miss Afrika was introduced to soul
and R&B music by her mother at a very early age. That fact added to her
mixed-culture and mixed-race background has turned her music into a blend of pop and acoustic-soul sometimes flirting with rock, full of emotion and energy. Likened to Alicia Keys, Nikka Costa or Erykah Badu among others she combines an incredible vocal expression, natural command of her piano, a charismatic stage presence and catchy melodies. She started studying classic piano at the age of 13 and has developed her skills on keys since then exploring different styles like jazz and pop. She would eventually study opera, gospel, music theory, harmony, production and contemporary dance. Miss Afrika’s first step in music industry was at age 17 when she joined gospel choir Hosanna in Madrid. Soon she would also play the keys and become the music director. Soon after she became the lead singer of funk band Dosen-Wan gigging in some of the most famous jazz clubs in town. In April 2003 she appeared on the TV show ‘Ésta es tu oportunidad’ and soon after that she was offered a job as a singer songwriter/producer for Beatfreak Recordings working for acts like Simon&Shaker, Dimas, Destiny or Two Angels. In 2004 she joined Gospel Factory as one of the main vocalists, a neo-gospel band with which she has been touring Spain. And in 2005 she was awarded a scholarship for studying at LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts). In July 2006 Miss Afrika played at the BoArt festival in Madrid sharing stage with musicians like Abraham Laboriel or Patrice Rushen. Recently one of her tunes “Hold On” has been selected by Robbin Gibbs (of the BeeGees) to be part of his new release on iTunes supporting young songwriters. Miss Afrika and her band are currently based in the UK.
