Want a guaranteed, criminal, dirty dancefloor? Miss Demeanour.
Risking juvenile detention as an under-18 gal in Australia, Miss Demeanour (aka Ashleigh Fanning) would sneak in the back door of nightclubs just to get first-hand drum and bass in her face.
Straight out of the antipodean home of breakbeat, Perth, Miss Demeanour was surrounded by local talented crew who knew how to mix, had great taste in tunes and were more than happy to take her under their wing. As all true authentics do, she started on vinyl in 2006 spending every last pocket-money dollar on fresh records from Chemical (UK). A Stanton t-60 labpack and computer skills down-pat soon after, Ashleigh was heavily influenced by NOISIA, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Deekline, Ed Solo, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz & Lady Waks. BAM - she extended her repertoire to include electro-house and sounds and began playing at regular club night, Break The Seal.
Enter: Miss Demeanour.
A tutor to the music-loving crowds, she is forever a student; always on an ‘in search of…’ – new artists, new music, new skills, new programs. In 2012 she released her first mix online and the viral love went ape; so did the requests for bookings. Her first international support was for Marten Horger on one of Perth’s infamous summer boat parties, snap-quick followed up by Ed Solo and Beta support. Miss Demeanour scored her first set at world-renowned Ambar, securing her place as one of Australia’s most promising young female DJs.
At the helm, Miss Demeanour pulls you in so tight with her hands-in-the-air flavour and ear-to-ear Aussie girl grin – before you know it you’re seduced. Hook. Line. Smitten.
