Missing Fundamentals came up with their name while flipping through Cat’s sound science text book minutes before their first open mic. They had their eye out for a term that was catchy and had a musical meaning. Drawn to the mystery of a missing fundamental, they quickly chose it as the name for their group. The definition of the term is a little complex to explain here, but the name has different meanings for everyone. For a while, the band was missing a drummer—definitely a fundamental part of a band! Now they are complete, but maybe you will find, they are what YOU have been missing. Since that first open mic in 2008, Missing Fundamentals has been well received in the Boulder/Denver area, playing clubs such as The Skylark Lounge, The Laughing Goat, Cervantes, and Quixotes. They have evolved into their own style of indie-rock/folk group, and with their eclectic tastes and styles, no two of their songs sound quite alike. Their influences range from The Beatles to Modest Mouse.
