Bio
Miss Jackie and the Sass was created in February 2005 when singer/songwriter Jackie Matejko joined forces with drummer Kristen Regester. Their musical chemistry was immediately amazing, and it shone through to the audience like a red light in a window in Amsterdam. About a year later, Kristen left the sassiness to go tour around with the musical comedy act Nice Peter. Thank goodness she returned and is once again The Original Sass!
In a world where female rockers are often asked if they're "with one of the bands" when they're loading in their equipment, The Sass proudly stands up and says, "We ARE one of the bands...and we'll give ya a big spankin' on your ass if you ask us again!"
Brad of the Chicago band, Your Little Ponies, puts it very well:
Miss Jackie's voice is a smooth blues bellow that can reach up to a smoky howl in all the right ways. The sound is tight, bluesy and catchy. The themes range from lovelorn losers riding the slow train through heartbreak town, to…well…shaving the most sensitive areas of your body. My take on Miss J and the Sass's musical perspective/narrative is that life is a bitch. You can be too. But whatever you do for love/vindication/self-reliance, do it for the right reasons. Do it for yourself. Sassy? Oh my yes. But somewhere in those simple backbeats and sweet harmonies there is a scar-tissued toughness that makes Miss Jackie and The Sass, ironically even sweeter. Blues is the music of the vindicated. Rock is the music of the misanthropic. Blend all that together with a firm grasp on life's ironies and some indomitable stage energy and you've got Miss Jackie & The Sass. Dig it with a shovel."
Miss Jackie and The Sass released their debut EP, "You're Finally Gettin' Some" on December 20, 2008.
