"Miss Krystle in The Last Song"

Miss Krystle is an alternative electronic artist, feeding on a love of music, fashion and artistic installation. A classically trained musician since the age of 4, Krystle started her solo career as a self-managed artist. She released her first album “Identity” in 2009 with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. Simultaneously, she pursued her bachelor’s degree where “Identity” served as her honors thesis at Arizona State University. Miss Krystle is currently pursuing a law degree from the Phoenix School of Law while performing and supporting the release of her second album, “Run”.

Her latest album “Run” which released August 16, 2011was co-produced with the amazing film composer Jason Camiolo. Her first single from the album also titled “Run” was released with a beautifully done music video, which has already passed 16,000 views on the net and was placed at #4 on Jango’s top 10 airplay list (Jango is one of the most popular internet radio stations). 12 North Photography recently had the great opportunity to photograph and interview Miss Krystle for the first installment of my “Grindhouse” series and this is what she had to say.

Q: Tell me a little about yourself…

A: I am a self-managed performance artist, and I live for my art and beautiful fans. My fans mean the world to me, and I do everything with them in mind. I have never waited for success. I feel successful now because I am living my dream, and enjoying every minute of it! I feel amazed, inspired, and humbled by those who support me, and refuse to ever let them down.

Q: What inspires you as an artist?

A: I recycle everything I hear and see, from a perspective somewhere between reality and fantasy. Moments of inspiration feel like religious experiences, and inspiration always comes to me as long as I respect the process. The moment I reject the inspiration, it rejects me.

Q: In the spirit of Halloween, what are you most afraid of?

A: My only fear is that I would ever disappoint my fans.

Q: If you could describe your music in one sentence what would it be?

A: My style of music is electronic indie-pop, with a deliciously dark rock edge.

Q: Where can one listen to and purchase your music?

A: http://www.misskrystle.com

Q: When and where is your next show?

A: Visit www.MissKrystle.com for pending show dates.

Q: If you could sing a duet with one artist who would it be and why?

A: I am on a five-year “Disturbed” high, I think it is time for us to collaborate.

Q: What are you working on now?

A: Want a Star music video is set to be release by the end of the year!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A: I hope I am doing the same thing I am now. - 12 North Photography Blog

"Miss Krystle "Want a Star" Music Video"

A few days ago, I got to work on the "Want A Star" Music video for Miss Krystle. I didn't know much about her when I went into the shoot, and I have to say that I am so glad that I got to meet this truly unique and sincerely sweet artist.

When you first look at her, it is easy to put her into a pop starlet box with her fire engine red hair, ballet dancer frame, and perfect porcelain skin, but you would do yourself a great disservice in doing so. With influences like Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Bjork, System of a Down, and Korn, she is clearly more than the sum of her parts. When asked what her inspiration was for the video, this is what she said...

"The inspiration for this music video came from the dichotomy of my recent experiences as a law student and musician. The overall theme is my refusal to be labeled. "Lace and a pretty face, it's what he wants, right? If you want a star, then I am not your lady." No one gets to set the standard for who I am, or who I ought to be."

Wanting to learn a bit more about her, I decided to do something I’ve always wanted to do! I sent her the questionnaire that James Lipton uses on Inside the Actor's Studio! Here is what she sent me!

What is your favorite word?

"Yes"

What is your least favorite word?

"Can't"

What turns you on?

"There is nothing more exciting to me than freedom. Creative, unaware, unrelenting, unapologetic, and passionate freedom"

What turns you off?

"Excuse-making. There should never be excuses, only solutions"

What sound or noise do you love?

"Laughter, but more importantly, laughter that I was able to cause"

What sound or noise do you hate?

"I hate the sound of defeat in a friend's voice"

What is your favorite curse word?

“I love hearing people say ‘bloody hell!’"

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

“I am a musician, but I fully intend to take a crack at legal advocacy for child abuse prevent in the near future”

What profession would you not like to do?

“I do what I love every day. I have no idea what it would feel like to not live my dream daily. It would probably feel like torture.”

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

“I would like him to say he was proud of me, because I used up all his given gifts and skills, and lived a successful life that positively impacted others.”

The video itself features members of the Scorpius Dance Theatre, male models painted to look like statues, gorgeous gowns by Natalia Acosta, the insane makeup talents of Terre Steed, and fierce hair by Steven Bakos.

"Miss Krystle Explains "I Don't Cry""

Local singer/songwriter Miss Krystle has a lot to look forward to this week. On Saturday, August 13, the pop/electronic artist celebrates the release of her new sophomore 10-song album, Run, with a show at Crabby Don's in Gilbert. Besides hearing new tracks from her album, the show also features live body and canvas painting, plus a raffle to benefit Young Ones United, which raises awareness about child abuse prevention.

While the official release of Run isn't until Tuesday, August 16, you can check out Miss Krystle's new track, "I Don't Cry," along with lyrics, after the jump. Miss Krystle says, "I was in the middle of studying for a law school mid-term, and all of a sudden the inspiration flooded over me. I stopped everything I was doing, and immediately went and wrote this song. I recorded the vocals to this song in one take, and must say that it is one of the most organic songs off the new album."

"Crying is not always the best form of emotional release. For me, it is near impossible. Since birth, I have always found other ways of expressing myself. One of those ways is through music. People should just know that they are free to express themselves however they want."

There's also a slick clip for her song, "Run," you can peep out. The video already has more than 12,000 views and won first place for the 2011 Video Music Awards at Scottsdale Community College.

I Don't Cry

[Intro] I don't cry

[Verse 1] There was a moment when I was born
I looked around at the world
I did not speak
I kept it all inside
All inside (x2)

[Pre-chorus] Through my life, I stayed the same
My someone left, caused me so much pain
I laid in my bed, day after day
Day after day

[Chorus] It's a problem
But this how I am
Since birth I did not know how to cry
Trust me, I'll survive
The thing about me is that
I don't cry
I don't cry

[Verse 2] My life is spinning, more out of control
I cannot stop myself
I want to let it out
But I keep inside
Keep it inside
Keep it inside

[Pre-chorus] Through my life, I stayed the same
My someone left, caused me so much pain
I Laid in bed day after day
Sick inside

[Chorus] It's a problem
But this how I am
Since birth I did not know how to cry
Trust me, I'll survive
My stronger side
The thing about me is that
I don't cry
I don't cry
I don't cry
I don't cry

[Bridge] Call me whatever you like
Whatever you like

Whatever you like
Call me whatever you like
Whatever you like
I won't cry

[Verse 3] While I and am young, I'll won't worry about
Life and its' constant doubts
What you saw in my eyes
Were not tears, just little lies

[Chorus x2]

[Chorus]
I don't cry
I don't cry (x2)

Bio

The Big Picture: Music and Community Service

As a classically trained musician, Miss Krystle applies her talents to writing and recording music to benefit her charity, Young Ones United. She has had the opportunity to appear on several reality TV shows, such as America’s Got Talent, and has used such outlets to get exposure for this important issue. Krystle recently released her debut album, Identity, and has committed 100% of the proceeds to YOU. Having composed, recorded, and produced this album on her own, Identity's sound is something of a mash between techno-pop and dance-pop, with a splash of rock and roll intensity. As Krystle says, "Things are only going to get more intense, shocking, and raw with my upcoming music, videos, and performances.....I'm a woman on a mission!"
