Bio

Miss Little is the moniker for Sarah McCallum’s unique brand of song writing that has seen her described affectionately as a musical chameleon.
Miss Little sits in the heart of traditional song writing, underpinned by electronic rhythms, jazz, noise, vocal layering and a deep-seated influence of classical music.
Her quest to find her own musical identity has seen her likened to a fascinating array of artists from Goyte and Kate bush to Curtis Mayfield.

Her debut “When Things Fall Apart And Into Place” is a nine-track album that explores the pain and beauty of transition. Described in Brisbane’s Time off as “An Intricate album of sonorous pop songs that eschew traditional musical norms” the artist describes it as “ A beautiful face in a slightly ugly frame” which is an apt description of the duality that is explored throughout.

Teaming up with Sydney Producer/engineer Richard Belkner, Sarah sings and plays the majority of instruments on the record, which sees her love for analogue keyboard instruments and drum machines making a great appearance. The duo set out to create electronic sounding sounds with real instruments, amplifiers and pedals instead of computer plug-ins. Paper and springs were put on piano strings, snare drums sung into to create distortion and hallways recorded for reverbs.

Joined live by Matt Keegan(Saxophone and synths), Evan Mannell(Drums) and Neal Sutherland(Bass/keys), Miss Little has been making a name for herself as a distinct, creative, strong live performer. She toured Australia with Lanie Lane supporting her on her debut album tour and was invited to perform on stage with Crowded House at their show at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney.

A multi-talented musician, Sarah also composes classical music and arranges strings and brass for other artist’s albums. She has won many awards for composition and has had works performed around the world.

Keeping in the theme of varied musical genres, 2012 sees remixes of Miss Little tracks released by Sydney artist Master Of Ribongia, and London dubstep/drumstep duo Dodge and Fuski who have racked up over 3 million views on Youtube and have been championed by Radio 1, 1 Xtra and the world’s leading Youtube dubstep channel UKF.

Miss Little will be teaming up with Brendan Maclean on a heartfelt piano duet about growing up with a video to come soon. She has also already started work on her second album to hopefully be released in 2013.

"Miss Little was the winner of a website competition we ran to come up with a melody and words to suit a backing track we had recorded. Her offering impressed us for its unusual lyrics and interesting melody. She also possesses a very strong distinctive voice." Neil Finn

"Miss Little is a pop artist who resists the urge to crunch silly beats into it. Assured, fragile, tender, sexy." - Melbourne Age
