Biography

Miss Melody CN
Haunting, Childlike, Delicate, Operatic, Melancholic. Adjectives aside, Miss Melody is putting an original stamp on the international music scene. Although she is fluent in English, she chooses to sing in Mandarin Chinese to convey the subtle and sometimes indirect connotations of her heartfelt and emotive tracks. She says that she doesn't want to be 'lost in translation'. She doesn't like the ideas brought forth by tags like "fusion", "crossover" or "world" music - Her desire is to create a harmonious balance of both western electro-dubstep leanings with ancient chinese themes and poetries. Born in Inner Mongolia and hidden from the Chinese Authorities as a child, owing to the infamous one-child-policy, she's now living in exile in Singapore for political reasons, and the pain, complexity, innocence and secrecy of her upbringing and life-story plays out in her music.
Embracing the lyrical virtues of ancient Chinese Poetry from ancient Song and Tang Dynasties, her music is at times uplifting and proud, at other times dark and polluted. Even if you don't speak or understand Mandarin Chinese, her messages transcend language. Have a listen, and make up your own mind. We invite you to draw your own conclusions. China has always been known for copying and stealing ideas. The music coming from China is dry. Listen to the tracks here to get wet and hear something more original than you may have ever heard before...

Lyrics

Sui

Written By: Mobidextrous&Miss Melody CN

Sui in Chinese means Broken. The song can be about broken relationships, broken agreements, or broken dreams. In the context of a romantic relationship, when the story ends, when the other person walks away, all of the sudden the world changed, the priority of the life changed. The understanding of what is important and what is not changed. People you would not give attention to all of sudden becomes considerable.
However, the music video directed by international awarded movie maker Robert Douglas brings the meaning of the song to the next level. It becomes a discussion about reality. When the dream is broken, all the things you thought of as important appears meaningless. The perspective changes everything. For the young kids who are living in the transiting society of China, what is changed by the recent influx of the fresh ideologies?
Lyrics

????
Having been asleep for many years
????
All of a sudden I wake up
????
Before the dream is over
????
I thought the colorful world could last forever
????
Between you and me
??
There's just a delusion
????
Even though it’s been many years
??
When it's broken, it's broken
????
My Sun
????
There were many stars in the sky
????
For me there was no star
????
My Sun
????
There was no star in my sky
????
But now the sky is full of stars

The song is about confusion in an excessive urban life-style. People get polluted and lost and changed. Friends or family from the past life can no longer fit into the current pattern. Even we want to go back, the road has been changed. It is the first production of Mobidextrous and Miss Melody.

Lyrics

???? ????
???? (Hai Shi Shen Lou)means mirage. ?is the fall of the tides in the morning, ?is the rise of the tides in the evening. So the first sentence means:
No matter what mirage you see in your life, the tides are still rising and falling everyday, life is still going on the way it does.
???? ???
???? (jiu lv deng hong) means excessive lifestyle. Grean Alcohol and red lantern. ?? (Bei Zhan) means the containers for drinking-glasses and cups.
So the second sentence means: Soaked in this shallow and excessive lifestyle, even the container of the drinks get drunk. No one can escape from being polluted.
Then: ???? (Jiu Ren Hui Shou) people from yesterday wants to come back to my life.
The end: ???(Gui Tu Shu) the road has changed

Wang Ming Yue

Written By: Li Bai & Miss Melody CN & Mobidextrous

Wang Ming Yue is a toned down but still rebellious statement from Miss Melody on behalf of her generation of young Chinese people, who grew up under the manipulation imposed by the controlled, standardized, national media and national education system - a system which discourages creative or critical thoughts. The song is based on a very famous Chinese poem Jing Ye Si (In the Quiet Night ) by Li Bai from Tang Dynasty. In China, it is one of the first poems that kids learn from their textbooks. Everyone knows the poem, and everyone can recite it.

In the Quiet Night
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed---
Could there have been a frost already?
Lifting my head to look, I found that it was moonlight.
Sinking back again, I thought suddenly of home.
(Translation by Witter Bynner)

In the poem, the writer watches the moon in the sky and misses home. It has become a standard to associate the moon with family, home, mother, homeland, or nostalgia. Miss Melody, instead of following the same routine of getting nostalgic while watching the moon, she claims that she does not miss home at all, and she does not need to miss anyone at the sight of the moon. She refuses to associate the moon with the conventional images. She would rather think of nothing than following the framed over-sentimentality.

Lyrics

Verse: ?????
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed
?????
Who is still watching it
?????
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed
??????
Wonder whether anyone is still watching it

??? ????
I am watching the bright moon, but not really missing home
??????
I am just watching the moon in the sky
???????
I am not thinking of anyone

Chorus:
?????
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed---
?????
Could there have been a frost already?
?????
Lifting my head to look, I found that it was moonlight.
?????
Sinking back again, I thought suddenly of home.

Repeat:
?????
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed---
????? Could there have been a frost already?
?????
Lifting my head to look, I found that it was moonlight.
?????
Sinking back again, I thought suddenly of home.

Verse:
??? ????
I am watching the bright moon, but not really missing home
??????
I am just watching the moon in the sky
???????

Chorus:
?????
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed---
?????
Could there have been a frost already?
?????
Lifting my head to look, I found that it was moonlight.
?????
Sinking back again, I thought suddenly of home.

Ru Meng Ling

Written By: Mobidextrous&Miss Melody CN&Li Qingzhao

Li Qingzhao is a female poet living in Song Dynasty, almost 1000 years back in the history of China. She is a sensitive soul, who cries over the death of a flower. She is also a tough lady, who survived and recorded a chaotic time of war with the power of her writing. She is Miss Melody’s favorite Chinese writer.

In this song, Miss Melody uses one of Li Qingzhao’s most famous poems--Like a Dream as lyrics. When being asked why she chose this poem, Miss Melody shared her unique interpretation: Li Qingzhao wrote it in the morning when she woke up with a little hangover from a stormy night. She noticed there were less flowers in the garden whereas the maid, being somber all the time, failed to notice this happening. It is a discussion about truth. Is truth what is seen, or what is ignored? When tragedy happens to the unknown, who will see it as truth, and who will simply ignore it? Who is being somber?

Lyrics

Verse:
??????,
Last night the wind was strong and rain was fine.
???????
Sound sleep did not dispel the taste of wine.
?????,
I ask the maid who's rolling up the screen.
??“????”?
"The same crab-apple tree," she says, "is seen."
Chorus:
“??????
"Don't you know, don't you know “
??????”?
The red should languish and the green must grow?"

Repeat:
??????,
Last night the wind was strong and rain was fine.
“??????
"Don't you know, don't you know “
??????”?
The red should languish and the green must grow?"

This song is Miss Melody’s observation of some Chinese girls’ problem with relationships: the unreachable expectations and constant questions of the unquestionable. The endless wondering and indecisiveness resulted from a conservative way of dating and unrealistic expectations.

Lyrics

???
I cannot hear
????????????
The sad crying over the waves on the stormy ocean last night
???
I cannot see
??? ?????????
The subtleness, and the mysteries intimacy between your brows.
???????
I don't know whom I am still waiting for
