Last year we learned about "Reggae in Fusion Album #1," a collection of songs, mostly by Hartford-area artists, blending reggae with other genres.

Seems some of the songs are doing well on the radio and on the charts in Jamaica, according to Roger Meltzer, CEO and Director of A&R for Capsicum Records, which released the album. (Meltzer also co-wrote 10 of the songs on the disc.)
"Just As I Am," a sort of devotional reggae song by the big-voiced singer Misteree, has climbed as high as No. 16 on a top-25 reggae singles chart compiled by Richie B., host of "Hot Mix" on the radio station Hot 102 FM in Jamaica; and to No. 8 on something called the "Stampede Street Charts," which recently named another Capsicum singer, Ardie "Cuban Cohiba" Wallace, an "artist to watch."
Meltzer says Misteree's song is also No. 1 at Energy Radio 101.5-FM in Hartford, where chart position is determined by a combination of listener requests and text message votes.
"The response of Jamaican radio stations and their listeners to our music is amazing," Meltzer says by e-mail. "We took a big chance taking our reggae-in-fusion crossover sound into the birthplace of reggae, but we believed in ourselves and our songs, and the people of Jamaica, with their eclectic musical tastes, have vindicated that decision. - Eric B Banton

Camille “Misteree” Ismail
A born singer, raised in Westmoreland Jamaica, Camille gathered many musical influences from listening to different genres of music within her household. It was the well-received performance at age nine, which cemented the fact that music was her gift and calling.
After moving to the United States, the decision was made to pursue her art and become a performer. The stage name “Misteree” was born and since then there was no looking back for this young, beautiful and determined songstress. Misteree entered many competitions and rose to the top, her most memorable moment was when she won second place with her first calypso song. This opened many more doors, allowing her to be the lead singer of soca bands, reggae bands and even jazz bands. Her versatility is what makes her the most sought after West Indian female artist in Hartford. She has opened for many celeb status artistes like Duane Stephenson, Beenie Man, and Beres Hammond to name a few. Currently in the studio producing her new album, this artist is one to expect big things from in the coming year.
