"Interview, The Deli Magazine, July 2011"

On “Drive Your Car,” from its forthcoming debut EP, boy-girl duo Mister Melt sings about cars, sex, fighting, and dancing—the Big 4 of rock ‘n’ roll. Mickey, the band’s car-averse singer and guitarist, calls the tune “totally ironic,” but “escapist” is more like it. The sampled drums evoke Escape Club’s party-starting 1988 hit “Wild, Wild West” — still a highway howler, even if it’s a blatant Elvis Costello rip-off — and Mickey’s vocals suggest at least some affinity for ‘50s and ‘60s American pop culture. If nothing else, Mickey and Maria dig how Brits like the Jesus and Mary Chain recontextualized malt-shop memories. - The Deli Magazine

"Bands We Like, Oh My Rockness, July 2011."

I stumbled on this brand new band and immediately after pressing play (ok, I actually 'clicked' play but whatever) I was smitten (ok not smitten, I don't want to ask them out on a date to some low key place like a mellow café).

Mister Melt is two people... I think. There's not a whole lot out there about this band. But what I do have to go on is that Mister Melt creates nice wall-of-sound songs, with just the right amount of crunchiness, which would fit right in with your collection of Sonic Youth and Serena-Maneesh and Autolux and Weekend and The Pains and Ride albums. Probably more bands too, I'm just tired of thinking.

Mister Melt is one of those groove-driven bands that screech and swirl towards a noisy crescendo of reckoning and ultimate resolution. That's a stupid way of saying this rocks. Since I don't know a whole lot about them, why don't we stop the words there and just decide together that Mister Melt is worth going out to see play.

And who knows, maybe one day we can impress the people we pay to be our friends with, "I saw Mister Melt way back when they were brand new." And then those friends will roll their eyes and walk away from you. But that's their issue, not yours. - Oh My Rockness

Oh My Rockness says: "Mister Melt is one of those groove-driven bands that screech and swirl towards a noisy crescendo of reckoning and ultimate resolution. That's a stupid way of saying this rocks."

Deli Magazine says: "On "Godzilla" and "Lemon Tree" the pair cruises along with distortion cranked high, making a noise as timeless as Wayfarers and black leather."

What the Musk says: Mister Melt, the self-proclaimed “existential rock band,” is a duo that sounds like a fivesome. They build up a wall of sound in the vein of Sonic Youth or My Bloody Valentine; the songs are immediately catchy, incorporating noisy guitars and poppy percussion into a danceable groove. Even a simple chorus of “woo!” sounds refreshing coming out of these guys.

Metromix says: "...their sound of haunted vocals, disconnected drumming and lo-fi fuzzed-out guitars will bring a smile to the faces of anyone who learned about rock and indie from listening to downtown college radio. Not poppish, not slick—just speaking the language of the locals, is all."
