Press

"Um, this is my new act. Thus, no press yet. Here are a few words on my old band,"

“What the world needs today”
Gord Downie, The Tragically Hip, in Now Magazine

“Ivory-tickling hyphenate Mitch has a knack for coming up with sweet complimentary melodies to his finger work.”
Chuck Molgat, Exclaim Magazine

“A winning sound that’s simultaneously refreshing and strangely familiar”
Sarah Liss, Now Magazine

“Majestic piano and big beefy beats, combined with wispy Belle and Sebastian-like vocals and a soaring old-school Elton John-ish chorus … An old friendly sound with a fresh new vibe.”
Brian Pascual, Chart Magazine

Bio

Mitch Willer plays like Schroeder, sings like Linus, hurts like Charlie Brown and boogies as good as Snoopy. Well, almost. His keyboard-based music is modern pop for lovers of classic songwriting styles of the 60's and 70's (and other lovers).

The Toronto-based singer-songwriter is releasing his new CD, “Sylvia Sidney…I Love Her Still!” in November. It will be followed up by extensive touring of Canada and the U.S.

Joining Mitch both on disc and on stage are Chris Chiasson on guitar, Sarah McElcheran (Sarah Slean, Hawksley Workman) on bass and trumpet and Ilios Steryannis (Michelle Rasky) on drums. Guest performers on the CD include acclaimed vocalist Kat Goldman.

This solo trip is the newest adventure in Mitch’s long and semi-illustrious career in Canadian music. Previously, he was the lead singer of Young Ideas, a popular Toronto band which released the EP ‘…to care for a baby bird’ (Bobby Dazzler Records) in 2003. The EP charted in the top 10 on Canadian college radio. Songs from the EP were included in the Canadian feature film “Wilby Wonderful” and the syndicated television show “Radio Free Roscoe”.

Back in the 90’s, Mitch was a member of The Shadow Puppets, a band that released two independent CDs and performed on CBC TV’s “Rita & Friends” (alas, they’re not friends any more…Oh Rita!).

Mitch hopes to expand on his former accomplishments, or at least play a few good shows (which so far have included this year’s Canadian Music Week and North By Northeast music festivals). His music makes people happy, which in turn makes him happy. So everybody’s more or less happy. And that’s all you gotta know (so far).
