Mitra Shanti

Mitra Shanti

BandLatinSinger/Songwriter

Mitra Shanti combines in his music the beauty, rhythms and social complexities of his Puerto Rican homeland with what he has absorbed from other countries as a nomad songwriter. His songs invite us to reflect about the world we live in and the one we once dared to imagine.

Biography

Inspired by the beauty, romanticism and social complexities of his Puerto Rican homeland, Mitra Shanti, whose original name is Milton Carrero, began writing his songs at the age of 17, soon before emigrating to the United States to study journalism. He earned his Master's in journalism in 2001 and worked as a reporter for various American newspapers until the year 2004. In 2002, at the age of 23, he survived a cancer that unraveled an awakening in his way of living. In 2003, he took the name of Mitra, after earning his certification as a Yoga instructor. In 2004 he resigned to his job in newspapers to travel with his guitar across Latin America, the United States and Spain. He has since chronicled in his songs what he sees in his inner and outer world.
From the descriptions of Caribbean beaches to the pain of a mother minutes after losing her child, from the intoxication of love to the separation of souls, from the struggles of our daily lives, to the mysticism of death and the wonders of our spiritual paths. Mitra Shanti, whose name means friend of peace in the Indian Sanskrit language, invites us with his songs to reflect about the world we live in and the one we once dared to imagine.

Quiero hablar de Paz

Written By: Mitra Shanti

Quiero hablar de paz
(Mitra Shanti)

English Translation:

I want to speak of peace
Mitra Shanti, music & lyrics

I know that in this world
there exists a shadow
of violence and grief that surprises no one,
but I want to speak of peace
I want to speak of peace.

That they sell us weapons
and break the rules
that the Earth is one
and there are a thousand bombs
but I want to speak of peace
I want to speak of peace.

Where are we to find peace
where is it hidden in what place?

Don’t tell me that we have to fight
with a weapon to find peace
or that soldiers of peace exist
the red cross cannot keep up.

Activists are dying on the picket lines
while the governments remain chaotic
still, I want to speak of peace
I want to speak of peace.

Be the change you want in the world
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
and humanity starts in your house.

Be the change you want in the world
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
and if you become peaceful, the world will change.

Where are we to find peace
where is it hidden in what place?
In you.

Un sube y baja (A sew saw)

Un sube y baja
Mitra Shanti , music & lyrics

(scroll down for english translation)
...

Coro:
Desafina un poco y has de loco
y deja que el amor sane el corazón roto
que si ser feliz es pasajero
también lo es el sufrir por eso persevero.

A seesaw
Mitra Shanti, music & lyrics

Leave your sorrows on this scale
for life is still a constant seesaw
grant your soul a melody
for it’s the only thing that remains when the day dies.

And sing to Love, that a new song is being born

Loosen up a little and act crazy
and allow love to heal your broken heart
that when the scales end the chorus will emerge
and please don’t lose your faith, I implore you.

Leave your sorrows on this scale
for life is still a constant seesaw
grant your soul a melody
for it’s the only thing that remains when the day dies.

How beautiful is to feel that goodness exists in you

Loosen up a little and act crazy
and allow love to heal your broken heart
that if happiness is fleeting
so is sorrow that’s why I persevere.

No dejes de Amar

Written By: Mitra Shanti

No dejes de Amar
Mitra Shanti, letra y música
(scroll down for English translation)

Los sentimientos se rompen
las lágrimas corren aunque no se quieran
es ver derrumbarse una montaña
cuando se anhela escalar.
Eso a veces es amar…

La confianza se quiebra
las llamadas tardan en llegar
es caminar entre la gente
para encontrarse en soledad
Eso es a veces la amistad…

Pero no reniegues de un beso
si te sabe a verdad
no reniegues del abrazo
si te trae felicidad
no le cierres el corazón
a quien pueda necesitar
vale la pena intentar
vale la pena intentar a amar
vale la pena.

Las esperanzas se estillan
las estrellas parece que no brillan
tras la niebla fugaz
es caminar en tinieblas
imaginando donde andar
Eso a veces es soñar…

Coro:
Pero no dejes de amar
no dejes de creer en la amistad
mantén en la oscuridad un sueño
la fe te ayudará a andar.

Never stop loving
Mitra Shanti, lyrics & music

Feelings are broken
tears run down even if you don’t want them to
it’s watching a mountain crumble
when you yearned to climb
That’s what loving is sometimes like.

Trust is broken
support can take long a while to arrive
its walking among the multitude
to find yourself alone
That’s what friendship is sometimes like.

But don’t disdain a kiss
if it has a taste of truth
Don’t look down on a hug
if it gives you happiness
don’t close up your heart
to those who are in need
Love is worth a try.

Hopes are shattered
stars seem absent
behind the fleeting fog
it’s walking in darkness
imagining where to stand
That’s what dreaming is sometimes like.

chorus:

But never stop loving
don’t stop believing in friendship
hold on to your dream in the dark
faith will help you on your path.
