In 2000 in a place called Ladeira (Cap Verde) some teenagers decided to found the acoustic Band MIXCULTURA. Born in a traditional musical environment these guys started first to perform songs with traditional Cap Verdien melodies and introducing a new playing style with the guitar and the little guitar (cavaquinho). They started working on a peculiar repertoire with own songs. But at that time they had to face one big problem: Where could they get the instruments and technical supports to play their music!!
After taking part in some Festivals in Cape Verde such as “Sete Sois Sete Luas”, “Escurraletos” in Porto Novo or “Fontinha’s Stadium” in Mindelo, and animating cultural nights in Santo Antão and Mindelo, MIXCULTURA concentrated on working out their own music. A music with lyrics related to yesterdays and today’s daily life of Santo Antão’s people. They had their first Album coming out: “Tchuva è Vida”.
In 2005, MIXCULTURA was the revelation of the Festival “Sete Sois, Sete Luas” in Ribeira Grande- Santo Antão. Considered by the jury as the best group of the festival, they had the chance to play in several festivals in Europe as the Ponte de Sor- festival in Portugal.
MIXCULTURA will be on tour through Europe this summer
