Biography

I have been writing music and songs for a few years now and have just started getting a few that I think are recordable. I'm not a 'lovesong' counsellor. I like to write music about real life struggles, and triumphs. My own life has provided some good material. Some of my musical influences include Paul Kelly (Aussie singer songwriter), Greenday, Johnny Cash.

Lyrics

Show of Me

Written By: MJ Brennan

I’ve given up drinkin and smoking, but I’m still kickin the cat
I go to work and earn a little money, Im doing so well but I feel so flat
I got a little piece of God, but he’s struggling to be free.
I got a bigger piece of me, and it’s screwin everything I see

Can you relate, do you debate with your mind?
Brother welcome to my show
Welcome to the world of highs and lows, and freak shows
Where anything goes.
The self obsessed, crazy fest, out of it, Show of Me.

Got no time for helping hands, Unless you stick one out for me.
I got a mind that likes to stay closed, but it opens when I fall to my knees.
Chorus
Can you relate, do you debate with your mind?
Brother welcome to my show
Welcome to the world of highs and lows, and freak shows
Where anything goes.
The self obsessed, crazy fest, out of it, Show of Me.

I cannot go on livin life like this
I cannot go on facin days like these

I don’t wanna live, I don’t wanna die
Won’t you help me up, give it one more try

Can you relate, tell me do you debate with your mind?
Brother welcome to my show
Welcome to the world of highs and lows, and freak shows
Where anything goes.
Ohhh ohh oh oh ohh
Welcome to my little world of highs and lows, and freak shows
Where anything goes.

The self obsessed, crazy fest, out of it, Show of Me.
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeaaaaahhh, this crazy world of me

Don't Miss the Life

Written By: MJ Brennan and Steve Hughes

DON’T MISS THE LIFE
© Hughes and Brennan 2006
Words and music by Steve Hughes and MJ Brennan

Generalised anxiety, OCD Road rage
Binge drinkin on the edge of town, Prozac for the underage

Drugs, pills booze addicted, Television news afflicted
Such a fine resume, what’s not to like about the way

We’ve moved ahead Progress in the underground (moved ahead)
She’s smiling while you’re going down (moved ahead)
Liberty burning on a cross
We’ll counsel you for your grief and loss

CHORUS
You know there’s only so much time,
the greasy pole is hard to climb
Alienation is not a crime, but it still feels like I’m doing time
It feels just like I’m doing time

At the flick of a switch or the poppin of a pill,
I take or leave my world at will
I have complete control, over my body and my soul
My hero’s live in a black square screen with plastic lives and a glossy sheen
They tell me lies and I believe them all, the gloss is so appealing I fall

Into the night, the way ahead
Darkness of night, the way ahead
I was sleeping while I dreamt I was awake

You know there’s only so much time, the greasy pole is hard to climb
Alienation is not a crime, but it still feels like I’m doing time
It feels just like I’m doing time
This is your wake up call
Your final boarding call
This is your wake up call
Don’t miss the life!

You know there’s only so much time, the greasy pole is hard to climb
Alienation is not a crime, but it still feels like I’m doing time
It feels just like I’m doing time

This is your wake up call
Your final boarding call
This is your wake up call
Don’t miss the life!

See 'Show of Me' in EPK. In process of recording more for demo's. I'm open to changing the sound of these songs but for now that's how they sound!

Set List

I have written about 8 original songs and continue to do so, with the help of fellow guitarist, Steve Hughes more recently.
