Bio

Melanie Laine’s swift and sure rise in the music world shows no sign of slowing down. Her first single release was supported by a video courtesy of CMT’s Video Advantage Program, and the song and video both enjoyed airplay in regular rotation. Melanie’s second release “Is Goodbye The Best You Can Do”, had an even stronger showing, and now her third release, a remake of the Juice Newton classic “Queen of Hearts” is out of the gates fast. “Queen of Hearts” also has the support of a video, Melanie’s second, which is receiving daily spins on CMT Canada.

Recorded with Bart McKay of SoundEdge Productions and distributed by Royalty Records, the album entitled “Time Flies” features songs written by some of the industry’s best including Steve Fox, Cyril Rawson, Dean McTaggart and Denny Carr – not to mention Melanie herself!

The album and debut video came on the heels of another successful year, capped by Melanie’s eye-catching performance at the 2004 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards Show where she was again chosen Best Female Vocalist.

It’s all part of the ride that began in 1996. Influenced by legends such as Patsy Cline and Crystal Gayle, combined with her own live-wire intensity, she won the GX94 Star Search Competition in Saskatchewan as Melanie Wunsch. Soon she would demonstrate her song-writing talent on her first self-penned release, “All Through the Night.” Her live appearances throughout the year earned Melanie a substantial and loyal following – inspiring her to make music a full-time career.

In 2000, Melanie received an honourable mention from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for “I Have Memories Too”, chosen out of an astonishing field of 25,000 submissions. That same song, co-written with local songwriter Dean Kush, also won Top Duo Vocal Performance in the British Columbia Country Music Association’s Talent on Tape Contest.

Melanie took yet another step in 2002 - assembling a band and refining her stage show while releasing her first single as Melanie Laine. “Time Flies” quickly rose on the BDS charts.

Melanie’s second single “Jump Right In” quickly shot past “Time Flies,” further showcasing her writing skills and securing her nomination for a Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Country Group or Solo Artist by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. This nomination is testimony to the respect and support that Melanie continues to receive from Canadian radio.

The Saskatchewan Country Music Association nominated both “Jump Right In” and “Time Flies” for Best song and Best Single, and at their awards night presented Melanie with the award for Best Female Vocalist and Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year for 2003. The awards show ended with a stellar performance by Melanie Laine, putting the finishing touches on a distribution deal with Royalty Records.

Melanie continues to satisfy fans with performance dates, and is extremely excited at what the future may bring.
