Okayfuture is excited to premiere today the new video from Sydney-based artist MLHLND, who’s sexy, synth-laced debut single “Clothes Off” dropped last Friday on Personal Best Records.
Directed by Tim Nagle, the new video for “Clothes Off,” distilled in sultry shades of reds, oranges and purples, follows a swaggy lothario as he takes his various conquests around NYC back to his own bed. The track, produced by Joel Ford ((Autre Ne Vuet, Com Truise, Ford & Lopatin), showcases MLHLND’s ability to move seamlessly between ethereal pop, subdued electronica and chilled-out, futuristic soul to create a smooth Chet Faker-ish, future R&B sound.

If his debut single “Clothes Off” is any indication, it’s only a matter of time before MLHLND goes global like fellow Australians Vance Joy, Chet Faker and Flume. Of those three artists, the latter is the closest reference point to the Sydney-based newcomer, but he really occupies an entirely new space with his dreamy synths, R&B-influenced vocal style and bold pop sensibility.
A steamy bedroom romp, “Clothes Off” sounds like ’80s Prince on acid. “I wanna see you with your clothes off, I wanna see with my sex on you,” MLHLND sings in his occasionally wavering falsetto over cascading synths and melodic keys. There is not a lot of say about MLHLND that cannot be heard through
his music. In a world navigated by social media and celebrity image,
MLHLND takes an artistic and creative approach with his identity and
material. Only found on Instagram and Twitter, MLHLND invites outsiders to enter his mind and to see his vision.
MLHLND is a young Australian producer and singer/songwriter who
mixes warm vocals with glassy production, his music is ahead of the time, with a similar style to the likes of Troye Sivan and an added sex appeal.
Since the release of his debut single “Clothes Off’, MLHLND has
receive a large amount of praise, with media recognition from blogs and
publications worldwide including Australia’s Project U, America’s
OkayFuture and UK’s Vrs Mag. MLHLND has been on the tip of
everyones tongues in Australia’s electronic music scene, from Triple J
& Fbi radio hosts/dj’s to touring agencies, photographers and more.
Now in the lead-up to releasing his next single “Non-Stop” followed by a
debut album “Twenty First Century Love” later in the year, MLHLND is ready to take on the world by force.
