“Irrevocably a heart-warming and beautifully constructed piece of melancholic folk-pop.” - Q

"It's gorgeous… what a lovely song and very nicely done." - Damien Rice

After playing no less than 250 concerts to support his debut album, 25-year old Pl Moddi Knutsen from the remote island Senja in Northern Norway had announced that 2012 would be a year of rest, feeling quite simply that hed worn the melodies out.

However, between the trees of Telemark, as far away from both the continent and the sea as he could get, Moddi found peace of mind and announces a follow up to his double Norwegian Grammy-nominated debut, in the form of Set the House on Fire, to be released worldwide on 8th March 2013 through Propeller Recordings.

Moddi is known for turning down a 100.000 grant from the Norwegian Statoil because of their intentions of oil drilling in the North of Norway. The same year, in 2010, he received an equally large grant from the Norwegian pop group a-ha and toured as support for Angus and Julia Stone. His debut album Floriography was recorded in Iceland with producer Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bjrk, Cocorosie, etc.) and was released in the UK in 2011.

Moddi says about the album:"When we recorded Floriography everything was planned and prepared months in advance. This time it was more like playing around with sounds. A little poppier and at the same time stranger than the last album."

Set the House on Fire was recorded in a rebuilt boat house in Giske on the west coast of Norway. It contains duets with post-pop prodigy Einar Stray and London-based Farao. The first single from the album is called House by the Sea, and is accompanied by a video from the band's drummer Jrgen Nordby.

These rivers are rain from a summer gone by
dragging the rubbles to sea
they’re pointing their guns towards a northern sky
still none of them call themselves free

afraid to collide, you fall out of your mind
to kiss concrete ground with your teeth.
but with two cigarettes and your letter, combined
this air is too heavy to breathe
this air is too heavy to breathe

in order to stop them you cry out a spell
that withers in rubbles overseas
“take all your fluid words, kiss me farewell
and give me peace
give me peace”

House by the Sea

Written By: Pål Moddi Knutsen

They say home is the place where your heart is
then I am home now though I am far away
for so long I’ve let deep forests guard it
and now it’s begging me to stay
and I’m trying my best to be tough
to pretend I am strong and can siphon it off
but I’m not who I wanted to be
in my heart I belong in a house by the sea

they say home is a place where you’re needed
then I am home now but I am leaving
to feel my feet being kissed by the seaweed
and I’ll be silent and kiss it back
this is not who I want you to see
it’s just adding on weight to the darkness in me
and from the little I have understood
I believe that a house by the sea would do good

they say home is a place you can choose to be
and I’ve decided to carry home inside me
so it’s not really as if I am leaving
it’s more like something pulling me

‘cause behind everything that I do
I just want to forget, want to carry this through
fill my lungs with the sweet summer air
in my heart in my mind I am already there
yeah behind everything that I do
I just want to come home and lay down beside you
and then I’ll be who I wanted to be
in my heart I belong in a house by the sea
