"The Øya Festival"

"And it was en route from the Okkervil River stage toward the press area that I made my first of two discoveries of great Norwegian bands-- quietly intense acoustic guitar, smoldering strings, and a haunting Norwegian-accented voice caught my ear like a tractor beam. This was Moddi, who hail from some tiny island in the north, and who nobody I spoke with knew much about but everyone seemed impressed with. While I enjoyed the National's dark, rootsy take on U2- (...) - I enjoyed Moddi's modest quietude even more." Brian Howe, Pitchfork - Pitchfork

Bio

My name is Pl Moddi Knutsen, and I come from an island called Senja in the far north of Norway. I have borrowed my mother's accordion, stolen a russian display mandolin and do own an ocean blue guitar with two broken frets and a whole lot of love stains, with which I make and play music that's always a little larger in my head than what ends up on tape. My first small concert was held in 2004, and since then, things have grown little by little, with by:Larm and the ya Festival in Oslo as possible peaks of hooray.

The music I make lives a life of its own. Sometimes you can find it as a huge band session with noise and loudness, while sometimes it's so small and discreet that you might want to sing along to help it continue. The songs grow a little for every winter that passes by, just like any child would.

The autumn of 2009, I'm going to Reykjavik along with by band to record my first album, which is to be released in 2010.
