This is an excellent CD, showing that you don't need a 64-track mixing desk and Butch Vig sitting behind it to make a great rock 'n roll record (no offense to Butch Vig if he's reading this - you rock, man.) Punk energy, Sonic Youth guitars, and a whole host of great hooks - you can't fail to love this album.

heard of the Modern Girlfriends on MySpace, and ordered their CD 5 minutes after hearing them for the first time. The CD is whirring, dreamy, looooo fi, and Sonic Youth-y. It is perfect for chillin' AND for dancing around and goin' nuts. I love every second of this album, and my only letdown is that it isn't long enough.

I heard about River Jones on the Katy Rose message boards, heard Ugly Since Birth and really loved it. After hearing a few more songs on the modern girlfriends myspace I ordered the album. I really really enjoy it and my favourite tracks are Ginger Kisses, Ugly Since Birth, Reality Has Everything You Need, but they're all crazycool. Definitely buy it...it's mellow in parts and good to dance along to!

Modern Girlfriends is River Jones who writes, plays all of the instruments and produces the music himself. He made this album in a bedroom, and in hotel rooms around the world while touring. Everything you hear on this album was recorded lo-fi, he only used one microphone for the entire record (that's all he could fit in the suitcase). "I Fell In Love With A Cutter" was recorded in Japan. "Ugly Since Birth" was recorded in Phoenix, and "Reality Has Everything That You Need" was recorded on an airplane to America from Europe. River has friends that he loves and adores. Katy Rose , Madelyn Bullard, Libby Clarke, and many more make an appearance in a revolving door of back up singers and co-writers.
