Hugues is a pleasingly smoky-toned singer and a fine guitarist, able to play rhythm and lead all at once. He's so effective in this musical sleight of hand that audience members scan the stage in search of a (non-existent) second guitar player.

Modeste Hugues Randriamahitasoa
Biography
My name is Modeste Hugues Randriamahitasoa. I grew up in Betroka, in southern Madagascar. When I was young I had no money to buy a guitar so I built one at the local college where my father was a teacher. My Mothers singing was my inspiration and I loved to recreate the sound of village life, especially the marovany, A 24 string traditional instrument. I began fusing Betrokan rhythms with the sounds of the bush and this amazing pallet is what I draw on when I play, and is the place that I return to when I perform.
