Moey's Music Party (17 tracks, 43 min, Dr. Toy 2008 Award winner.)

Feeling a bit camera shy

Moey is Melissa Levis, an award-winning Off Broadway songwriter who became a Mommy Rocker thanks to the birth of her now 5 year-old son. Moey has become "The Pied Piper in Pink" as she spreads music and joy to children throughout New York City.

Moey and her band of drums, banjo, bass, and guitar rocked Off-Broadway with "Moey Live - P is for Party!" at the DR2 Theatre in Union Square this Fall. Using songs and props that start with P, Moey got the audience to sing from their seats and boogie by the stage. New York Magazine called it a “Hot Pick.” The New York Times advised kids to “dress up and go crazy as they follow Moey in a musical adventure whose purpose is to plan a fabulous party with things like puppets, princesses, pom-poms, and pirates.”

Moey leads weekly Moey’s Music Party Classes for children ages one to three years old at Café Notte on 85th Street and 2nd Avenue. Caregivers enjoy the class as much as the kids because, in the words of a mom of 2 Moey students, “Moey's Music Party is about music, numbers, animals, letters, and interaction. It's like a party on "Sesame Street!”

Thanks to the band’s many free concerts, “Moey Mania” is sweeping New York City. This Winter, Moey gives six free concerts at the New York Public Library. She recently gave 12 free concerts in Central Park playgrounds and created their “Sandbox Sing-along Series.” Moey’s Music Party recently performed at The Tribeca Film Festival, The JCC, Union Square Park, multiple NYC Barnes & Noble Bookstores, Dylan's Candy Bar, The Bank Street Bookstore, Chelsea Piers, and The Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton. For the past 3 years, Moey taught music classes to over 300 children each week. She currently teaches music to preschoolers at P.S. 158 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The 17 song “Moey’s Music Party” CD includes the songs “Pierre Wouldn’t Wash His Hair,” “Sushi Symphony,” and “I’m a New York City Kid.” The $15 CD is produced by Lemonade Productions and available at, Mary Arnold Toys, The Bank Street Bookstore, and The Northshire Bookstore.

Before Moey performed at children birthday parties, Melissa Levis entertained for grown-ups at Le Cirque, The Plaza, The 21 Club, and The Rainbow Room. For the past 15 years, Melissa wrote custom songs for private parties including celebrations for New Mexico’s Governor Bill Richardson, Brian Mulroney (past Prime Minister of Canada), Eli Wallach, Jonathan Tisch, and Ethel LeFrak.

Melissa wrote the lyrics to IT’S A HIT!, a comic murder-mystery musical that premiered at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival and was performed at French Woods summer camp. Melissa also wrote the lyrics to OF SHE I SING!, a musical celebration of great women on the 20th Century. She’s currently developing several projects for TV and audio books.

Melissa earned a MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She is an alumna of Brown University, The BMI Musical Theater Workshop, and the Commercial
