Bio

Heralding from grey suburban Watford on the outskirts of London, Mohair have been steadily grafting their way up the rock’n’roll ranks with their distinctive melodies and harmony drenched tunes.

The band wrote prolifically from the outset and toured relentlessly. When they finally felt ready, they decamped to the lowlands of Scotland for inspiration to write their first album.

‘Small Talk’ was barely complete when it unwittingly found its way to the other side of the Atlantic where the legendary management duo of Q Prime’s Peter Mensch and Cliff Burnstein signed them to their new ‘Grunion’ label at the beginning of last year. Suddenly they found themselves in the same family as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse amongst other rock luminaries.

2006 was a good year for the band starting with a UK Top 10 ‘Indie’ single on their own label. From here support continued to build with the music press, national newspapers, BBC and independent radio.

Mohair played their first TV appearance broadcast on Channel 4’s Album Chart Show and their first ever stadium show supporting Depeche Mode. This was followed by a number of UK and European main stage festival appearances alongside the likes of Primal Scream, Mus, Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs.

Not a band to rest on their laurels, Mohair then hit the US in the autumn touring the east coast of America to promote ‘Small Talk’, which hit the shelves on 19th September.

After two months touring up and down the East Coast to critical acclaim, where they were joined on-stage by the Killers for a 90 minutes jam in November in New York, the band returned to the UK to finish the year on a high.

Firstly they played the Mencap Little Noise Sessions alongside The View and The Fratellis after an invitation from Jo Whiley. This was followed by a tour with Boy Kill Boy with 2006 culminating in The Sunday Times voting ‘Talk Of The Town’, the opening track from their album Small Talk, as one of the best 40 songs of the year.

2007 has started where last year left off, with a support tour with Razorlight across America and Canada in February/March followed by several performances at SXSW, including Filter’s brilliant Cedar St party and a big show at La Zona Rosa. The plaudits followed as first the album was nominated for the Shortlist Music Prize, then they were offered a slot on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Having just finished touring UK arenas with Razorlight, Mohair will be coming to Germany to play four dates at British Music Week alongside The Holloways before releasing the indie single Everything I Want / Little Voice on May 14th.
