Bio

The Memphis sound continues it's evolution through the music of five youngsters collectively known as Mojo Possum. Formed in the college town of Knoxville, TN in early 2008, the boys relocated back home to Memphis where they started off playing in Mississippi juke joints with Duwayne Burnside and David Kimbrough Jr. (sons of blues legends R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough). Down in the jukes, they got the training of a lifetime. After learning how to work the tough crowds in Mississippi and their college late night experience, Mojo Possum hit the Memphis scene hard. Their sound (based in Memphis rock and soul, Mississippi blues, and an injection of New Orleans funk) is progressively evolving through psychedelic rock, folk rock, electronic, hip hop and jazz. Put these guys in a room and watch the magic happen. Mojo Possum caters to a wide variety of crowds from the blues hounds to the jam band following, from the hip hoppers to indie rockers. In the short span of a year Mojo Possum has played the major clubs in Memphis, college towns throughout the Southeast, and blues festivals in Mississippi. They have shared the stage with Colonel Bruce Hampton, Porter Batiste and Stoltz (members of the Funky Meters), The North Mississippi Allstars, Kenny Brown, Hillcountry Revue, Jimbo Mathus, and a string of Memphis local bands. The boys are also avid composers and are constantly trying to break new ground. In the future, Mojo Possum looks forward to traveling and recording more, constantly progressing, and carrying a pocket full of the Memphis sound wherever they go!
