"3 Reasons We're Listening To Momma's Boy This Week"

Momma’s Boy is a new addition to the area’s thriving garage-rock revivalist scene, one that includes notables like the Conquerors and Psychic Heat.

3 reasons we're listening to Momma's Boy this week:

1. The band celebrates the release of its debut EP, Liquid Courage, at two shows this weekend.

2. Three of the four members of Momma’s Boy played together in high school.

3. The six songs on their EP meld the disheveled sound of 1960s garage-rock groups like the Chocolate Watchband with the sincere 1970s power-pop of New Wave misfits such as the Greg Kihn Band. - KCUR

"Premiere: Momma's Boy - "Don't Talk About It" Stream"

One of Kansas City's most promising indie rock bands is following up its debut EP from earlier this year with a new single series. That band, of course, is Momma's Boy. "Don't Talk About It" is the first of three new tracks to be released over the next several months.

The song employs the soft-loud dynamics of many of the radio rock giants of the 90's while also mirroring the tones of today's popular guitar music. Another strength of "Don't Talk About It" is a sparkling clean mix from engineer Joel Nanos that accentuates all of the track's quirks. This one's destined for at least a few drunken house party sing-alongs before the summer's gone for good. Raise your Solo cup in the air, Kansas City. - Shuttlecock Music Mag

"Show Recap - Momma's Boy EP Release Show"

If you look back all of a few post I wrote about how fucking phenomenal a set these guy's did at a midcoast takeover showcase well in a nut shell this set was that good and then about another twenty two and a quarter times more awesome this band filled out the Tank room and gave everyone there about a hundred dollars worth of excellent for 8 and since that's all that needs to be said in terms of how fucking phenomenally good their show was technical difficulties and all let's talk about Liquid Courage for a bit because you should just buy it like RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

From the fast paced swirling psychedelics of Make Believe, the mildly depressing Sleepin', the utter gem of a track that is Sweet Girl, and of course the bad ass singles Cool Heat and Be Good Boy I've literally watched all of these tracks grow and this EP is the amalgamation of a year of being dedicated to this band and being rewarded in the best way possible what we have here is 6 songs of straight fire that live and on this album are just fucking awesome I couldn't of thrown my money at these guy's fast enough and those reading this need to run out and see these guy's live and download the fuck out of this album because this fucking show and EP are just validation of why I've dedicated so much blog space to these handsome fucking devils. - Sam's Song of the Day

Bio

Born and raised in America’s heartland, Momma’s Boy formed to explore a project that captured their passion and experiences on their own terms. After developing their psych pop-, surf-rock-, and garage rock-infused sound, the four took their music on the road. Quinn Hernandez’s stormy and electric drumming style lays down smooth, body-moving grooves that often explode into furious thunder, while Jared Bajkowski’s melodic and liquid bass lines add a punchy, barking thickness that creates constant motion in the mix. Up front, Peter Beatty’s cool, shimmering guitars and swaggering croon dovetail with Shaun Crowley’s fiery, explosive guitar solos and smoky growl to bring the finishing spark to the group’s sonic experience. Together they emerge with a hooky sound that pushes the boundaries of surf, psych, and garage. Momma’s Boy is proud to have supported such notable artists as HoMesHaKe, LVL UP, Jessica Paige, The Phantastics, and the Architects.
