What had once started in a musky, smoke-filled basement in the suburbs of St. Louis as a random jam with friends has grown into a collaboration of musicians dedicated to playing from the soul. Long time friends, Phil, Marshall, Adam, Brad and Jason joined together with the newest addition, bassist Ryan Lehn, which helped expand the music into what it is today; a funky collection of sounds that boast a wide range of tastes, styles and influences. This diversity not only separates them apart as musicians, it defines them as a group as well.
After starting off in the suburbs, Mona Grooves has exposed their sound to the St Louis music scene by playing venues such as Baha Rock Club, The Way Out Club, Cicero's, 2720 Cherokee, and Pop's Blue Moon, as well as several outdoor events. A first EP album "Almost Live" combined a studio style recording with the raw live sound of collective recording.
New ideas and creative expansion are the primary motivational components behind Mona Grooves' music. This will to evolve, coupled with separately-influenced musicians, continually propels Mona Grooves’ music into unfamiliar territory. Each song holds its own sound that sets it apart, yet still retains the mirthful soul of Mona Grooves' expression through music. It is a musical endeavor that is constantly transforming but always firmly rooted in joyful vibes.
Having played, experimented, and evolved together for 3yrs, Mona Grooves is set to record their first full length studio album this spring. Commanding a repertoire of music lasting hours, Mona Grooves is poised to expand the imaginative nature of their sound in the diverse St. Louis music scene, and beyond.
