Monday I Retire
Monday I Retire is a 5-piece band from Ottawa, Ontario that came together in 2007. They describe their music as pop-rock with a bluesy and sometimes alternative feel. Led by a powerful female vocalist, the band's live show incorporates tight grooves, melodic guitar riffs, and a solid rhythm section.
Biography
Blend some jazz and soul with a hint of blues-rock, add a sprinkle of pop and you’ve got yourself either an unexpected chili-like concoction, or a Monday I Retire! (A dynamic and versatile 5 piece Canadian band hailing from the country’s capital, consisting of Mackenzie Di Millo (vocals), André Morrill (bass), Ben Di Millo (guitar, keyboard), M.J. Heney (guitar)and Stephen Adubofuor(drums)
If you have managed to combine the latter and still have not gotten a Monday I Retire of your own, then you must not have followed the recipe. (You have likely added too much pop.)
Monday I Retire is comfortable delivering their unique blend of jazzy pop/blues- rock and soul in any performance context, flexibly rearranging their music to suit the most intimate of acoustic venues, the most energetic of clubs, and the grandeur of any festival main stage with adaptive instrumentation and additions of horn sections and strings. As a result, they have gained a reputation for dynamic, captivating shows and passionate, fun performances, characteristics that are also reflected in their most recent singles "Wasting," "Come Si Bella," and "Closer To." These songs, recorded at Ottawa's own creative dreamland and production powerhouse Gallery Studios, will be featured on MIR's follow-up to their debut EP Worn and Reeling, slated for release later this year.
This band knows that their momentum is only growing; they've played Canada's
National Arts Centre Fourth Stage, Montreal Jazz Fest, and Ottawa's E.L.E.
Festival all in this past year, and are regularly performing for packed crowds in
venues in and around Ottawa. MIR has been featured on CBC Radio 1 (All in a
Day) and CKCU, as well as Rogers TV. They are not only capitalizing on this
momentum but perpetuating and increasing it, with a compilation of new material
coming out at the end of 2015 and tours to follow.
Monday I Retire has the spark and the freshness of a young band on the rise,
combined with the experience, tightness, and certainty of an established musical
family - and they are certainly a band to watch.
Lyrics
Goodbye
Written By: Monday I Retire
just leave please
make it easy
go on and go
out the door of
my mind
leave nothing behind
let me know
i can grow
and scream and shout
cry till the tears run out
this is how we say goodbye
let it all out
scream and shout
cry till the tears run out
this is how we say say say, goodbye
so sweetly
you've defeated me
left me here
to float through fears on
your sail
you taught me how to feel
let me know
i can let go
and scream and shout
cry till the tears run out
this is how we say goodbye
let it all out
scream and shout
cry till the tears run out
this is how we say say say, goodbye
just just just leave me
just just just leave me
just just just leave me
and scream and shout
cry till the tears run out
this is how we say goodbye
let it all out
scream and shout
cry till the tears run out
this is how we say say say, goodbye

have I let you go
deliberate and slow
once carved in
now outside the margins
victim of an abstract greed
with only empty gains
no promises can say
what i'd give
for how you'd lift
the burden of uncertainties
your heart of hearts
on your sleeve
i'm faltering
would you bridge the fault
dreams you fallowed i followed
i forgot them to placate the lesser me
when i fear that my life is shunted
i try to get caught up in something
what comes next is next to nothing
and i fear i fear it's coming too soon
to shake the scales from my eyes
and fit the bill unrealised
yet born of hallowed hopes disguised
to leave you forsaken
and though im left battered
my back against the floor
i know you're waiting
ear pressed to the door
dreams you fallowed i followed
i forgot them, forgot all you were to me
when i fear that my life is shunted
i try to get caught up in something
what comes next is next to nothing
and i fear i fear it's coming
when i fear that my life is shunted
i try to get caught up in something
what comes next is next to nothing
and i fear i fear it's coming
***it's when the world attacks, that's when i hold you back, it's when the world attacks, that's when i hold you back
when i fear that my life is shunted
i try to get caught up in something
what comes next is next to nothing
and i fear i fear it's coming
***trust and seek to find you, trust to know you want me too, trust that i'll see you again
