Monica and The Explosion is Monica Welander a 28 year old rock artist from Kalmar in the south of Sweden.
The solo project started in May 2005, when Monica broke with her old rock band to go in for a career as a solo artiste with her straight, explosive rock music – something that proved to be just right. The unique about a girl with an acoustic guitar playing action-packed punk rock has aroused many people’s interest. Monica and The Explosion has taken part in events ranging from clubs and festivals, to gigs at schools and in clothes shops.
In 2006 Monica was contacted by the promising filmmaker Daniel Larsson who wanted to support her with a promotion video, and in may 2007 the debut single and video “Hollywood” was released. During the recordings Monica and The Explosion was supported by the drummer Per-Ola “Peppe” Risenberg and the bass player David Persson, who also joined her as a backing band for live shows. The debut album was released in October 2007, produced by Monica herself. The album received good response and generated in, among other things, that she was selected by Sweden’s largest music magazine “Groove”, as one of the artists presented on the CD “Best of Swedish Groove” compiled especially for the Eurosonic music convention held in Groningen in January 2008.
Since the start in 2005, Monica and The Explosion has managed to go to stages all around Sweden, but also in Ireland and in Germany and most of the time giving solo shows, receiving very good response from organisers, the press and audience for the stage presence and the quality of her songs.
Monica and The Explosion is already booked for a couple of Swedish music festivals in the summer of 2008, and doing club gigs around Sweden this spring. A Nordic tour is planned in October.
