Monkey Pudding Face is an alternative rock/electronica band from Queens, New York. The lineup consists of Kyle Marshall (vocals/guitar) and Gennaro Marletta III (bass guitar/programming), both graduates of Berklee College of Music.
The band was formed during the summer of 2009 when Kyle approached Gennaro about starting Monkey Pudding Face. MPF would become an outlet for material stylistically different from their other band, which was more hard rock. The initial demo recordings then led to shows in New York City, Philly, New Jersey and throughout New England.
The band name comes from Monkey, which is Kyle's middle name, Gennaro's mother dated a famous pudding spokesman, and both members have faces. The band has been compared to Radiohead, Beck, Pinback, and Bjork.
Monkey Pudding Face creates songs that blur the line between genuine emotions and the absurdity in the world we inhabit. When Kyle sings, "It breaks my heart to be torn apart by a chainsaw" the listener is taken to a place where they have the freedom to take lines like this for face value or dig deeper and find their own meaning. The songs are labyrinthine in nature, taking the listener through various genres and to unexpected places.
Monkey Pudding Face have also set themselves apart from the pack with unique and engaging live shows. The performances create an atmosphere where your ears trick your eyes and vice versa. Shows are executed through a combination of live instrumentation, custom programming, homemade stage gear, and triggered effects/samples. This allows Monkey Pudding Face to perform in a variety of environments, from coffee shop to rock club.
MPF are also frequently playing shows and building their fan base. They've created a strong internet presence, including Facebook and Twitter. Frequent updates are sent to fans on the "Face List", their version of a mailing list that includes access to exclusive video clips. They are currently recording a full length album and working on a music video.
