"Monocle live on 88.9 WERS"

Monocle is a vision of the future, where instead of quantum physics or art history, students study the intricacies of sound. The band is comprised of two Berklee College of Music students: Christina Chatfield, musical synthesis major, and Danny Patterson, the artist formerly known as Sex Therapy, who both have seemingly grown more sophisticated with the bands new name. While Chatfield is at the top of her class, having recently earned Berklees "Laurie Anderson Women in Music Technology" award, and Patterson describes his pre-Berklee persona as a computer science dropout, the two have an undeniable chemistry as precociously professional producers. We dont know what theyre teaching them inside the designed-with-acoustic-in-mind walls of the famous music schoolâbut we like to think of it as a top-secret music laboratory, where students experiment with formulas to make a person want to nod emphatically and move their body like an ocean wave. They may even be learning hypnosis.

Monocles live mix in the WERS studios lasted over an hour, as the two scientists of sound broke out their explosive lab kit, mixing hard-lined atomic riffs into boiling beakers of beats. The recording took place during the witching hour between 11 p.m. and midnight, during the Revolutions techno show, as the WERS technicians unwittingly released the mind-altering substance into the airwaves for listeners around Boston. We havent gotten any calls on the results, and were hoping its not because those who heard the music are still dancing in a dark room somewhere, having put Monocles MySpace page on the screen and left its mesmerizing loop playing. This music is a little before its time, and as such is certainly not approved by the FDA, so listen at your own risk.

To download the hour-long WERS live mix for free, visit Monocles MySpace page at www.myspace.com/monoclemusik (not to be confused with monoclemusic, a different band from Brooklyn).

"Radio Revolutions"

Berklee-trained MONOCLE recently played their sultry tech house at WERS to a receptive audience. The duo of DANNY PATTERSON and CHRISTINA CHATFIELD fashion a mean brand of minimal grooves that’s getting attention from some high-profile corners. “We can’t exactly say when the EP comes out,” says Patterson, “since we haven’t gotten anything signed yet.” For now, they can be heard at their Web site, www.monocle-music.com/ , and on MySpace. They’ll be label-shopping this weekend at the Movement Music Festival in Detroit, the biggest of its kind. . . . Yours truly DJs the ultra-hot Paper party Friday for a one-night-only move to the Middle East downstairs. The night also features live performances from the CHINESE STARS, LORD & FRESH, and LANNEN FALL; I’ll be dropping nasty party jams alongside resident DJ ERIC MARCELINO (Sex Positions). Those of you who have been on the Paper’s post-Harpers tour (which saw it go all the way to Club Lido!) will be happy to know the club night has found a permanent home. Beginning June 2, Andrew, Eric, Eric, and their cadre of 400-plus party animals descends at Bill’s Bar on Landsdowne Street for regular weekly dance mayhem.

Bio

Monocle is a collaboration of two Berklee College of Music alum. Christina Chatfield and Danny Patterson met while attending the college, both majoring in Music Synthesis. The duo began producing together in class, eventually blossoming into a professional collaboration.

Christina graduated from Berklee in 2006 after receiving several awards and recognitions from the school, including the Laurie Anderson Women in Music Technology award. Both Christina and Danny had their own compositions chosen to be included on the Berklee 2006 Music Technology Divisional CD. Danny is currently finishing up his degree after doing an internship with Apple Computers in their Music Applications department.

Monocle is busily working on new original music (to be posted here soon!) and is planning on releasing an album in 2007. In addition to producing, the pair can be heard performing their unique sound to please the masses. :)

Christina and Danny also produce music individually. Christina has been featured on several websites including macenstein.com, digg.com, and in APC Magazine. Her solo music can be heard at www.myspace.com/anitserk. Danny, who recently had a solo album release on Bansheeworx (available on Beatport and iTunes), can be heard at www.myspace.com/dppmusic.
