"Monogamy Party Drop a Rock on the Scales of Seattle's Music Scene"

Pus City is a glorious gift bestowed on our city of pussies. While a hundred new indie-folk singer-songwriters pop up every week, we need a balance—it's necessary for ALL OF US to stay in tune with the natural order of things; we need both sides to rise with equal strength and proportionate power. Since the Blood Brothers broke up, and both the Spits and Big Business left town, the scales have been tipped way too far into the soft fuzzy Santa beards of so many prancing troubadours. Formed only two years ago, Monogamy Party are here to readjust our local equilibrium with raw energy, fury, and their first EP. All within their first song, the Seattle noise-pileup trio traverses easily from KARP-heavy glory to a downright pensive Modest Mouse–type riff, to a godheadSilo dice-up section, back into KARP-style group-vocal send-up. Metal and punk fans have a new reason to wake up. recommended - The Stranger

"Every Local Release Monogamy Party's Debut 10'' EP "Pus City" Is A Gritty, Well-Crafted, Noise-Rock Wonderland"

Pus City 10" EP
11/15, Good To Die Records

In a recent Reverb post, Todd Hamm rightly pointed that Seattle's newest hard rock imprint Good To Die Records is stockpiling a roster of some of Seattle's heaviest-hitting noise rock bands like Absolute Monarchs and most recently, Brokaw. Currently emerging within those ranks is Monogamy Party, a three piece drum/bass/vocals outfit with enough vim, piss, and vinegar to single handedly fuel the label's straightforward, all-or-nothing approach to hard rock music.

Their debut EP (currently streaming here) is appropriately titled "Pus City," a Chris Proff produced (Strong Killings, Mercy Ties, Ravenna Woods) six track release recalling the vocal blitz of These Arms Are Snakes' front man Steve Snere and the brooding bass tones of Fugazi. The overall sound is driving and expansive, as with dark, anthemic opener "Never To Rise," echoing Black Flag and Chili Peppers in its deep, bass driven arrangement and barrage of clipped vocals. "Hard Feelings" follows suit with a percolating bass line, metal distortion, and spewed, lyrical hailstorm.

With sonic textures and influences across the board, Monogamy Party offers up bass heavy, post-hardcore rock with a punk driven edge; hopefully "Pus City" has laid the foundation for more of the same when the band returns with a full length release. - Seattle Weekly

Bio

If you hadn’t noticed, the volume and intensity of music in the Northwest is getting louder and louder. Metal, punk and hard rock are starting to take over the clubs of Washington and Oregon, and the tastemakers of the world are starting to take notice. As the dust settles on the first explosion of talent that has captured national attention, there’s another wave of young bands ready to follow in its wake. And one band that is going to be leading the charge is the young trio from Seattle known as MONOGAMY PARTY.
Taking inspiration from fellow raging NW bass-and-drums acts like Big Business and godheadSilo, vocalist Kennedy, bassist/vocalist Yos-wa, and drummer Keith (no last names, please) have been playing together for only two years. But in that time, MONOGAMY PARTY has managed to cause all manner of commotions in venues up and down the West Coast. They’ve been hailed for their “reckless abandon” on Seattle music blog Sound on the Sound, and The Stranger recently said: “They’re like These Arms Are Snakes meets Karp meets Black Eyes. They’re great.”
The three young men came together with one simple goal in mind. Says Kennedy: “We just wanted to do some touring.” The other musical projects that Kennedy and Yos-wa were involved in were both content to record and play local shows. The itch of wanderlust in their guts, the two starting pounding out ideas for a slower, sludgier band before pulling Keith into the fold. The young sticksman was able to inject some much-needed speed and fury into MONOGAMY PARTY’s sound.
Live, MONOGAMY PARTY is a force of nature. Kennedy spends more time punishing the audience with his body, as he belts out impassioned stream-of-consciousness rants. His bandmates follow suit with a powerful, punk-inspired attack. It’s unrelenting, aggressive, and impossible to ignore. The band have also managed to capture this raw energy in the studio, working with producer Chris Proff (Strong Killings, Mercy Ties, Ravenna Woods) on a debut 10” EP called Pus City to be released this fall on fledgling Seattle imprint Good to Die Records. This is a band that demands your attention. The best you can do is look right into the eye of the storm, and hold on for dear life. [RH]
